I don't have an egg timer and whenever I boil an egg, it will either be undercooked or severely overcooked. What's the ideal amount of time to get it just right?

raul: 3 minutes is too soon, wouldn't that be poached egg?

My friend told me to leave it in the boiling water for 10 minutes after I've boiled the egg for 20, but as you've guessed, it totally overcooked! So that's so much for your wonderful suggestions that work.

Who needs and egg timer? Put the egg in a saucepan and cover completely with cold water. Turn on the gas/electricity to full heat and bring the water to the boil. As soon as it boils, turn the heat down to a simmer. If you want a soft-boiled egg, take it out as soon as the water boils. If you want a medium egg (just right?), wait 30 seconds. If you want a hard-boiled egg, wait 60 seconds. Never fails.

Easy way to boil eggs. Put eggs in pan, cover with cold water until just covered. Bring to a rapid boil (lots of bubbles). Remove from heat, cover. Let sit for 15 minutes. Drain. Rinse with cold water until cool to touch. Peel and eat.

I always time it for 15 after the water comes to a full boil. And let it keep on at a hard boil the whole time. Works like a charm, never fails.

My tried and true way to boil eggs is to put the eggs in a pot, cover them with cold water and put them on the stove on High. Then, when the water comes to a rolling boil, turn off the burner and put a lid on the pot. Wait 15 minutes and run them under cold water in the pan. They peel very easily this way too, just bang them around in the pan while you're cooling them off under the water. The peels will slide right off for you.

Once the water boils
3minutes and 30 seconds for soft boild
5 minutes and let sit in the hot water for 5 minutes for hard boiled

that is in my opinion.
this also will depend on
gas or electric stove
how high the flame is
how many eggs in the pot
