Tourists
Avoid Nathan Road like the plague!
Take a walk down it at night for that typical Hong Kong experience. Don't do any shopping, and don't enter any shops. Walk from Star Ferry up Nathan till Jordan Road then left 3 blocks and right for the night market.
Nathan Road is the tourist rip-off centre. bait and switch, physical intimidation and lock-ins abound.
Everywhere else is safe just not there.
Hotels along Nathan are cheaper but unless you are a typical dumb tourist shopper, there is not much to do.
Central, CausewayBay or Wanchai on the Island are a better bet for hotels.
Then again Nathan does seem to attract tourists like flies so I guess they must like it.

It depends on what you're interested in. For example, if you're interested in sight-seeing you might want to stay in the city centre, as this is less than a kilometer away from the StarFerry Boat tour, as is the space museum. However if you're interested in nightlife etc, you would want to stay in other areas.

Kowloon is central and where all the action is. Very easy to get around to other places and close to great shopping. Stay on Nathan rd..... Amust
