I believe i can answer this one.

The bodys temperature is monitored by your spine. If it detects an increase in temperature (above 37 degrees Celcius normally) then it tells the brain.

There are veins and arteries close to the skin, and below the skin, linked in sort of a A shape. The blood, on a normal day would pass through the bottom Loop of the A. On a hot day, the blood passes through the top loop of the A which where is passes the sweat glands close to the surface of the skin.

This natural red colour you may be getting is the blood passing close to the surface of your skin, where heat can then escape by convection. (Thermoregulation)

A handy tip for you about Thermoregulation: Did you know that a dog looses heat by panting. The dog opens its mouth and because the toung has a good blood supply, the breath is able to "Blow out" the heat from the blood, maintaining the dogs body temperature.

As dogs do, you should drink cold water which helps lower the blood temperature and essentially the body temperature.

Yep mine did too not an attractive look but I felt good which was the most important thing. It was because I was pushing myself to achieve more and to become fitter so that I could perform well and survive a 2 week white water rafting trip in Tasmania--- a great experience and an unusual one for a woman of my age
