Sleep apnia is a consequence of snoring, not the other way around ! Isn't it true that problematic snoring - the ones as loud as a bloody train ! have usually brought this condition on themselfs, through poor diet, lack of exercise, excessive consumption of alcohol, smoking, poor lifestyle habits generally ! and offcourse have high blood pressure. Yet they make out their the bloody victim of this, usually their asleep the whole time - its everyone else who suffers - bloody selfish. Why can't it be viewed as a socially unacceptable behaviour, when all they need do is make lifestyle changes to avoid this gross condition. I say change now, strenghthen your larynx and stop being so bloody lazy. I suspect they know when their snoring but are to lazy to make the effort !

Sounds like someone is suffering serious sleep deprivation from sleeping with a snorer!

It's definitely not that all snorers are "lazy, overweight, high blood pressure, out of shape slobs"! There are several conditions that can cause someone to snore, and sometimes, medical intervention for snoring can seem extreme. I know it can definitely be costly, as many members of my husband's family now have devices to assist them with sleeping. And believe it or not, the snorers usually aren't getting a truly restful night of sleep, either.

Personally, I've had enough experience with snoring in the family that I actually find it rather hard to sleep at night in a quiet house (although my mother-in-law's snoring, previous to her treatment, was the worst I've ever experienced - and I couldn't sleep though that!). My grandfather, who I spent quite a bit of time with when I was younger, definitely could rattle the rafters at night! But I learned over time to accept this as a comforting sound - if it woke me up in the middle of the night, it made me feel comforted and secure because I knew he was right there in the other room, and all was okay. And I had no trouble getting back to sleep.

So even though my hubby snores a bit, I think I'd find it harder to sleep if he didn't. As a matter of fact, I find myself waking up and checking on him if the room is too quiet more often than I find myself woken up by his snoring!

What a load of nonsense !

The reason for snoring is an obstruction of the airway.

when asleep, the autonomic nervouse system comes into play.
which ensures a regular intake of oxygen
It is controlled, by the central nervouse system, the medulla, which monitors the amount of carbon dioxide in the blood and when, it reaches a certain level ,
it stimulates the muscles of respiration to take in more air.

When asleep all muscles ( including tongue and uvula ,)
relax and can block the airway,
so an extra blast of air, causes vibrations which clear a path for the air
resulting in "a snore"

Snoring is not restricted to those who are overweight ;

the tongue and uvula ( both muscles ) may slip towards the back of the throat in sleep, and cause temporary obstruction .

The nose and sinuses,may be blocked ,causing mouth breathing and so obstruction of the airway

It is ignorance ,of the physiology of breathing,
that causes some to abuse people who snore ..( unfairly IMO)

Snoring is an entirely involontary action
Natures way of ensuring effective breathing whilst asleep .

My own father ( who was as slim as a reed ), snored like a grampus .... but was not aware of it LOL!

Sleep apnoea is a different problem ;
( a malfunction of the part of the brain ,that controls carbon dioxide level.)
A great deal of research has gone into this area recently and
many methods of relief are being succesfully tried

Are you being selfish and unfeeling .
Getting angry will not help reduce the decibels of snoring !
Maybe you should invest, in a pair of ear-muffs... LOL!

Some people like my father in law have a problem with breathing at night when they lie down and that is why they snore, some people just can't help it. He has gone to the doctor to change his problem and they have only suggested surgery. Which may not solve the problem. It is not because he is over weight or bad diet habbits becuase he is a very healthy man. He runs faster than me and could probibly kick someones butt if he needed to. So don't blam snoring on just fat and lazy people.

LOL....my father was over six feet tall...weighed in at a 170 pounds and kept my mother awake a lot of nights with snoring and making sure he continued breathing in his sleep.

He also was a 2 bottle a week beer drinker who only ever smoked when he drank the 2 beers..LOL.. he was a construction worker so he was in pretty good shape, and we ate what is now considered a good diet (very little meat & no processed foods).

So why did this man snore....every theory has big holes...you could drive a truck through this one.

Snoring aside, I think you have some issues that need addressing! However, I'm curious to know where you received your information? There are millions of men and woman who are healthy, of normal weight who exercise daily and still continue to snore like a 'Train'!
Get some help with your issues and the next time you want to pick a fight, do it with your Physiologist. Because you are only appearing a bit ignorant to the rest of us!

I've known any number of people who are ordinary-sized slim people who snore. Sounds like you're really angry at somebody for snoring - maybe you should talk to him/her about the issue instead of generalizing?

i may fit your description but many people who snore do not. Don't lump everyone in the same boat. Respect for others is always appropriate even if they annoy you with there lack of self discipline and inappropriate actions.

Why would you be selfish? Breast feeding is best for mom and baby. I didn't breast feed mine, because I wasn't given the best information. Keep on being selfish sister, your baby will thank you in the end.
