* If you take the verses from all four gospels, it appears that Jesus began the trip carrying the cross, but having been beaten Jesus was having difficulty carrying the cross.
BTW, they usually did not carry an entire cross, just the crossbeam.
So as they were coming out of the city, they spotted a man who was Simon of Cyrene [which is now called Libya] passing through and they commanded him to carry the cross the rest of the way.
* No one says that Jesus was on the cross for three days, he was in the tomb for three days.
He on the cross from 9:am to 3:00pm.
It was the day of preparation and the Passover would begin at 6:00pm so they had to remove Jesus before that time.
* I don't think that anyone can be absolutely sure which day of the week, Jesus was crucified.
The Catholic church selects Friday, but that does not make it so.
The last supper was on the day of preparation, just before the Passover.
If we knew for sure what day of the week Passover was that year, then we could be sure what day Jesus was entombed.
However, we are not sure which year Jesus was crucified.
We know he was 33 years old, and we know he was born on or about 6 BC.
* As to Jesus claiming to be God, Jesus said, 'If you have seen me, you have seen the Father, for I am in the Father and the Father is in me.'
However, we believe the whole of scripture to be inspired by the Holy Spirit, and John said that Jesus was the Word, and the Word was God, and was with God from before the foundations of the world.
He says that all things were created by the Word, and without the Word nothing would have been created.
One of the battles Jesus had with the Pharasees was over his forgiving the sins of a man who was brought to Peter's house.
They said that only God can forgive sins, and Jesus had blasphemed by saying, 'your sins are forgiven'.
I hope I have made YOU think... Have a great day!

You did make me think and here is what I have come up with.
1. As another said Jesus did carry the cross part of the way.
2. Nowhere does the Bible teach that Jesus was on the cross for three days.
3. The Bible teaches that on the 3rd day he arose from the grave not that he spent 3 days and 3 nights in the tomb. Indulge me, if you will.
To understand this you must understand that the Jewish day began at sundown not sun up.
a. He died and was buried on Friday prior to sundown: Day 1
b. Sundown Friday began the Sabbath: Day 2
c. Sundown Saturday ended the Sabbath: Day 3
4. Jesus DID claim to be God and equal to God, BTW both claims are true since the Bible clearly teaches the doctrine of the Trinity.
Again let me explain. When Jesus said in John 8:58, "before Abraham was, I AM" He was claiming to be God. "I AM" is one of God's many names, in fact the very first name that Jews new him by. This is why the Jews tried to stone him. 8:59
Also when he said on a few occasions that He and the Father were One.
I hope this sheds some light on your questions or statements. BTW As if you can't tell, I am a Jesus Freak.......so here's the pitch. He Loves you man! Open your heart to the truth of that FACT. I love you too.....and thanks for making me think!

Thanks for asking.
To answer your pointsL
1) Jesus did carry the cross for a little way, and then collapsed because he was so weak and couldn't continue - Simon continued to carry the cross to Calvary for him.
2) Yes Jesus died the afternoon he was put on the cross.
3) 'Three days' used in the Bible was a figurative expression that could be referred to as any part of three days. Jesus was in the tomb Frid, Sat and Sunday (3 days) - he rose from the dead early on Sunday morning.
4) Jesus DID claim to be God. There are a few instances of this. One is found in John 9: 35-38, where Jesus claims to be the Son of God and is worshipped. The best example is probably found in John 8: 58, 59 where Jesus says he had existed before Abraham and was called "I AM" which is the Hebrew word "yahweh" which means God. The Jews understood this because as soon as Jesus said this, they took up stones to try and stone him for blasphemy (defaming God's name). However, Jesus was God, so this was not blasphemy.
You are a thinking person - keep it up and may God bless you.

Hmmm, I'm starting to wonder at the motivation behind your questions. They are intelligent and thoughtful, skeptical but knowledgeable , mostly.
Simon was forced to carry the cross, but Jesus did some of they way. Until He could no more. Why is that important?
Many Christians did not understand the three days things either, until some scholar explained that in Jewish tradition, any part of a day is called a 'day' technically. So part of Fri and Sun, and all day Sat. does consititute three days. [That used to bother me a lot, though I still had faith.]
Umm, yes, He was on the Cross for 6 hours. If you want to get an idea of what it was like, try reading Psalms 22, heart wrenching.
Yes, He did claim to be God, in plain ways and in ways the people of the time understood too. But let's say you don't believe His claims, others testified of it too, even God Himself [the baptism]. And Jesus said His very own works were 'testimony' or proofs.

Yes Jesus did claim to be God. In john8:24 & john8:58 He claimed to be the great "I AM" of the old testament. This was the NAME God told to moses at the burning bush in exodus 3:14 By using this designation and applying it to Himself He was claiming to be the very Person who spoke to moses. And by the way, the jewish leaders who Jesus was talking to understood EXACTLY what He meant. Thats why they picked up stones to kill Him. "..it is not for good works that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God." John 10:33. As for your other "statements", 1) No one has ever claimed jesus was on the cross for more than 6 hours. 2) Simon carried the cross for Jesus (luke 23:26) AFTER Jesus started out carring it Himself (john 19:17). 3) The jewish way of reckoning days always included ANY part of a day as a WHOLE day. This has been known for centuries. Really, is this the best that you can come up with? Most christian elementry sunday school children knows this stuff. Maybe next time you have questions, please feel free to e-mail me directly. But please, make them REAL questions, not this childish stuff.---theBerean

maybe he didnt carry the cross all the way cause he was tired and wanted someone else to do it for him and even i know he wasn on the cross for 3 days he was up there for a few hours and the three days in the grave is allegorical and doesnt the jews say the day begins at night or something maybe we should stop getting worked up over legends anyway why doesnt someone acctually have proof that jesus was a real person i mean i read about it and watched so many documentaries on it and the best these christian and secular scholars come up with is that he was born in palastine he was a preacher and he was executed by rome for sedition other than that their is no record or proof a man named jesus ever lived

Jesus DID carry the cross until a "passerby" who loved and believed in him, was MADE to carry the cross by the Roman Soldiers.
Jesus was on the cross to die for your sins so that you can accept him and live for eternity in heaven with him.....Who cares how long he was up there for. Oh, so now you are putting a time limit on his suffering??
He arose from the dead, doesn't matter how long he was in his tomb.
Only thing you are right about here is your last point. Jesus did not claim to be God. But in his conversations with his Father, God, he knew who he was.
You did not "make me think", you made me feel sorry for you. You will find out the truth one day, I just hope it's before your soul leaves this earth. I hope to see you up there rejoicing with HIM, and not down on your Knees begging for forgivness when it will be too late.......

All you're doing is making the lost souls, such as yourself think.
John 19:17 , And He bearing His cross went forth into a place of a skull, which is called the Hebrew Golgotha.
note: He and His are capitalized, proving Jesus carried it.Simon was called out to help Him carry it.
NOWHERE does it say He was on the Cross for 3 days.
Friday,Saturday and Sunday were three different days, this is what the Bible refers to, not 3 WHOLE days.
There are numerous passages showing that we are to give him the same love, loyalty and devotion that we are required to give to God.
He receives the same worship of created beings, in heaven and on earth, as does God the Father (e.g. Revelation 5:11-14 - Jesus is constantly referred to as "the Lamb" in Revelation, the one who was sacrificed for us).
There are quite a number of passages from the Old Testament, quoted in the New Testament, where the original references refer to God, while the New Testament writers refer them to Jesus (e.g. Matthew 21:15,16/Psalm 8:1,2; Philippians 2:9-11/Isaiah 45:22,23).
There are numerous titles or metaphors used of Jesus that are also used of God, such as Saviour, Rock, Light, the Bridegroom, the first and the last, Alpha and Omega, I am, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Shepherd, Master, etc.
The fact that Paul, a person steeped in the Old Testament understanding of the Spirit of God, should so easily call him the Spirit of Christ as well, is as strong a confirmation as one could get of Christ's full divinity (e.g. Romans 8:9).
Please do your homework before you post lies.

Really how rewarding that you have revealed all this wild new stuff about Jesus. You have done turned Christendom on it ear. You have set Christianity back two thousand years. All Christians will just have to rethink the entire concept now. You have laid us bare. It will be a miracle if we are able to recover at all from such a severe blow as you have presented.
