put your husband down first

The way I see it is that you have two choices:

Let the dog continue to suffer and die on it's own. Unpleasant option at best.

Take the dog to the vet to be put down on your own when the husband isn't home and deal with the fallout later.

The third option I couldn't do but you could do something to help the dog along.

Personally, I am rather hard hearted and I would go with the second option. My husband would just have to get over it since he is letting the dog suffer just to appease his grief.

It's very hard to let an animal go. If your dog is truly that ill, and suffering, you need to convince your hubby that the only fair thing to do is to put him out of his misery. (the dog, not your hubby, lol). If the dog doesn't appear to be in pain, is able to still get around, and is eating good, I wouldn't do it yet. When it's clear that the animal is clearly suffering, then it is selfish on our part to keep it here. You and your hubby should sit down with your vet and see what he/she recommends would be the best for you dog. Good luck to you. It's horrible to lose a pet that we love. I know I've been there.

If your dog is very sick, your husband is a jerk for letting him suffer. Just keep your dog out of pain and give him lots of love. Hopefully your husband will have a change of heart. I had a dog with cancer and I put him through a very invasive surgery that didn't help him. I wish I had put him down sooner. I caused him a few extra days of needless suffering that will eat at me forever.

Have you called the vet to ask what can you do ?

You might just have to take matters into your own hands. Is your husband just not wanting to turn lose of the dog or the money for the dog?
If it's love for the dog I understand how he feels ! If it's for the money dump him for the dog.

@easy e....your comment is totally out of line! This woman is hurting for her beloved dog. I know....because I am going through the exact same thing with my husband and my dog. She has cancer, is suffering tremendously and my husband can't bring himself to let her go. It is one of the hardest things I have ever had to witness. Keeping your terminally ill pet alive for your own peace of mind is SELFISH!! My dad died with cancer....and to answer your question....YES!!!!...if it was legal....I would have done whatever was necessary to end my father's suffering.

your vet should be able to help give you tips and tricks to help you convince your husband. send him off to the land of endless balls and butts to sniff.
