What causes acid rain?
Acid deposition is a general term that includes more than simply acid rain. Acid deposition primarily results from the transformation of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides into dry or moist secondary pollutants such as sulphuric acid (H2SO4), ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) and nitric acid (HNO3). The transformation of SO2 and NOx to acidic particles and vapours occurs as these pollutants are transported in the atmosphere over distances of hundreds to thousands of kilometers. Acidic particles and vapours are deposited via two processes - wet and dry deposition. Wet deposition is acid rain, the process by which acids with a pH normally below 5.6 are removed from the atmosphere in rain, snow, sleet or hail. Dry deposition takes place when particles such as fly ash, sulphates, nitrates, and gases (such as SO2 and NOx), are deposited on, or absorbed onto, surfaces. The gases can then be converted into acids when they contact water.
What does acid mean?
An acid is a substance with a sour taste that is characterized chemically by the ability to react with a base to form a salt. Acids turn blue litmus paper (also called pH paper) red. Strong acids can burn your skin.

Acid rain is defined as any type of precipitation with a pH that is unusually low. Acid rain (or more accurately acid precipitation) occurs when sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are emitted into the atmosphere, undergo chemical transformations and are absorbed by water droplets in clouds. The droplets then fall to earth as rain, snow, or sleet. This can increase the acidity of the soil, and affect the chemical balance of lakes and streams. (for more, see source)

Acid rain is when the water cycle "picks up" bad chemicals from the ground such as herbicides. Then the pH of the rain goes from pH 7 to pH 4. Therefore raising the acidity level of the rain. So when the rain comes down it is called Acid Rain.

due to high levels of pollution in cities and other busy industrial places, the atmosphere contains large amounts of carbon and sulphur. these pollutants get dissoved in the water vapour up there and form acids like sulphuric acid and nitric acid. when it rains, these come down harming plants by poisoning the soil and also damaging historical monuments like the taj mahal since limestone and marble gets eroded easily with such acids. the long term effects are certainly very scary.

The fossil fuels like coal and petroleum contain small amounts of nitrogen and sulphur. When these fuels are burnt, nitrogen and sulphur too are burnt and this produces different oxides of nitrogen and sulphur, they dissolve in rain to give rise to ACID RAIN.
The inhalation of these gases causes allergies, heart and lung diseases.Acid rain also destroys fertility of land and creates soil erosion.Sometimes acid rain also destroys historical buildings.

Human generated pollution gets into the rain. When the rain falls, the acid in it kills vegetation.

the combination of exhaust gases with rain. the fumes become airborne and mix with water vapor then become precipitation (rain) that has a PH balance that is greater than regular rain hence "acid" rain is the term used to describe this rain it is truly acid rain BTW

when coal or other fuels containing sulphur are burnt they release sulphur dioxide. this sulphur dioxide when mixes with water vapour contained in the clouds forms sulphuric acid which then comes down to earth in the form of acid rain which can harm plants, soil and water life. trust me but even if you have any doubts you can see this answer in the 8th standard's bio or evs book. i can tell you this because i am also studying in 8th standard.

Acid rain is caused due to presence of oxides of nitrogen and sulphur in the atmosphere which affects the environment and damages many buildings, monuments and statues.it causes cancer and it is also responsible for depletion of ozone layer

Shhhhhhhh! Don't tell Al, he'll want to write another book and scare us. The rain cleanses the air of pollution. Just wash your car once in a while.
