Christians, Muslims, Jews etc etc - is there any reference in your sacred texts to a time, a glorious time, when you will finally get the gift of a fully developed sense of humour?

All of us athiests who weren't fortunate enough to made in God's image have been waiting for the special day (hopefully soon) when the religious can laugh at themselves and not take everything so seriously.

When a smiling person claps his hands and leaps in the air, the smiling expression changes into atihasita, or overwhelming laughter. An example of atihasita was manifested in the following incident. Krishna once addressed Jarati thus: "My dear good woman, the skin of your face is now slackened, and so your face exactly resembles a monkey's. As such, the King of the monkeys, Balimukha, has selected you as his worthy wife." While Krishna was teasing Jarati in this way, she replied that she was certainly aware of the fact that the King of the monkeys was trying to marry her, but she had already taken shelter of Krishna , the killer of many powerful demons, and therefore she had already decided to marry Krishna instead of the King of the monkeys. On hearing this sarcastic reply by the talkative Jarati, all the cowherd girls present there began to laugh very loudly and clap their hands. This laughter, accompanied by the clapping of hands, is called atihasita.

One has to be personally present to experience humor and taste it himself. It cannot be written down in paper. Though, it can be written down, how much can one realize it. But understanding God is not joke right now when we don't know anything about God
When you God, His name, His form, His nature you can joke even with God not just about God.

You cannot joke with God in His Majestically Opulent aspect, but you can joke and be humorous in His Sweet Personal aspect.
Just like one cannot joke with the Judge in the Court or with George Bush in the White House though they may be one's father. But when the same father is out of court or White House, you can joke with him, be humorous, play with him etc...

Only very recently, 521 years ago, did Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu with his many associates while worshiping Lord Krishna in the Land of Jagannath Puri in Orissa engaged in various fun as you can see from the narration from Chaitanya Charitamrita.

There were many gardens near the Gundica temple, and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His devotees used to perform the pastimes of Vrindavana in each of them. In the lake named Indradyumna, He sported in the water.

The Lord personally splashed all the devotees with water, and the devotees, surrounding Him on all sides, also splashed the Lord.
While in the water they sometimes formed one circle and sometimes many circles, and while in the water they used to play cymbals and imitate the croaking of frogs. Sometimes two would pair off to fight in the water. One would emerge victorious and the other defeated, and the Lord would watch all this fun.

The first sporting took place between Advaita Achaya and Nityananda Prabhu, who threw water upon each other. Advaita Achaya was defeated, and He later began to rebuke Nityananda Prabhu, calling Him ill names. Svarupa Damodara and Vidyanidhi also threw water upon each other, and Murari Gupta and Vasudeva Datta also sported in that way. Another duel took place between Srivasa Thakura and Gadadhara Pandta, and yet another between Raghava Pandita and Vakresvara Pandita. Thus they all engaged in throwing water.

Indeed, Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya engaged in water sports with Sri Ramananda Raya, and they both lost their gravity and became like children. When Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu saw the exuberance of Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya and Ramananda Raya, He smiled and spoke to Gopinatha Acharya. “Tell the Bhattacharya and Ramananda Raya to stop their childish play because they are both learned scholars and very grave and great personalities.”

Gopinatha Acharya replied, “I believe that one drop of the ocean of Your great mercy has swelled up upon them. “A drop from the ocean of Your mercy can drown great mountains like Sumeru and Mandara. Since these two gentlemen are little hills by comparison, it is no wonder that they are being drowned in the ocean of Your mercy.

“Logic is like a dry oil cake from which all the oil has been extracted. The Bhattacharya passed his life in eating such dry cakes, but now You have made him drink the nectar of transcendental pastimes. It is certainly Your great mercy upon him.”

Read the stories of the Gopal Bhan, Jester in the Kingdom of Raja Krishnachandra in West Bengal. Lot of humorous stories.
Birbal and Akbar stories, Tennali Ramn's stories. . . no limit. . .

I do not think that there is a "correlation between lack of a sense of humor and being Religious" at all. Just as there are different types of people-there are different tastes with regard to humor. I remember being excited about going to see "Red Foxx" at a live performance. I was expecting to see the man I had come to know as "Sanford" on the television hit "Sanford and Son" but was I in for a surprise! If someone here did not like the posts you had transferred to here that should not have surprised you. That does not mean they lacked humor-they just did not appreciate your type or taste of humor. I posted a joke about heaven a few weeks ago and got a very mean spirited response from an atheist-so the blanket assumption that atheist all have a sense of humor does not ring true to me either. People are people and unique.

In fairness, there are plenty of religioes who have a sense of humour. Unfortunately non of them come to Yahoo Answers. They are probably elsewhere partying and thanking their respective gods for the fact that their misery-guts bretheran are not with them.
As humour is a CRUCIAL part of life, I always found it ludicrous that the Bible was so humourless and sober. A major omission.

We will have a sense of humour once you have a sense of respect for other people and their beliefs!

Are you living on this planet? Have you never dealt with any religious person and saw them laughing and kidding? If not, I will host you in Egypt to see muslims and Christians laugh and joke.

Peace

I'm an Episcopalian and have an excellent sense of humor. I love all of Monty Python, Family Guy, American Dad, South Park, Lewis Black, George Carlin, Ellen DeGeneres, and too many other really hilarious things to list. Not every Christian takes themselves or things as seriously as you purport them to. Don't generalize. It makes your logic look shoddy.

I Love Jesus and laugh at myself all the time! :) I think Im a big ding aling and pretty funny if I do say so.

By the way, even Athiests who say they dont believe still acknowledge God and say His name but if they truly did not believe wouldnt even say God (if He "didnt exist). plus, we are all Created and made by God! and in His image. Man didn't create man.....

interesting question. as they say it takes "two" to tango and you are one --with a good sense of humor and the other one is "us". the concept of god is evolutionary and it is not static so welcome to the brave new world. believe in what you want to believe that the perfect world came into being by accident or by just a joke -- a joke on humanity itself. i rest my case, hope you will change yours.

I think it's the place in Revelations where it talks about God 'wiping away every tear from their eyes'...that is , when they get to watch a video of themselves on judgment day...acting like fools!

Great question! Not too many jokes in the holy texts are there? And yet surely one of the the joys of life is that we can see the funny side of things. Laughter is often truly the best medicine.

If I'm a bit low someone will make me feel better by making me laugh. Doubtful that they will make me feel better by telling me that God loves me!
