Yes they are real and comes in many shapes and forms ,just as fysiological problems.
Some are actually based in a fysical source, like a cancer tumor or chemical imbalance in the brain. In those cases i guess prying would be of limited success.
Some are quite severe, and the victim of them are unaware of strange behaviour that everebody else clearly see, so called psycosis, can be caused by many things including Drugs, Aids, Malaria and the common flu.
The lesser forms of psychological problems is usually known as neurosis.Neurosis is no longer used as a formal term in modern psychology, and a better word for it could be emotional distress.
Symptoms here range from light anxietie, phobias to obsessive-compulsive personality disorder and a whole range of things in between.

In the end, why choose either instead of to go both ways?
If a doctor prescribe pills , take them and if a priest advice you to pray, do so.
Neither of them cancel out the other.

Yes, sort of. From a purely scientific point of view, there is a phenomenon called the placebo effect. In this case a person would believe so much that their prayers would take away their illness that symptoms actually disappear. However this is very dangerous, since the illness may remain and go untreated until it begins to cause major problems. Prayer is fine, as long as the individual is also receiving psychological and medical care to treat them. Prayer heals the spirit while medicine and psychology heal the mind and body, and all three work great together.

If you're asking which is more effective for psychological problems, either could help but neither alone is sufficient. Recent studies of the healing power of prayer have shown that is is less effective than was previously thought. Medications treat some psychological problems well (such as anxiety and depression) but won't even touch others (like narcissism and sadism). I suggest you read a few good books about psychology.

I have come to believe they are REAL!! I've tried "praying" them off throughout the years and what I found was, my Higher Power kept leading me into information and help. I have an imbalance and although prayer and meditation has helped me greatly, I continue to stay on my medication. Hope that helps.

I suppose im a little biased..but it totally depends on the problem..prayer or religious thought always helps..the body heals better and it increases motivation..but depending on the problem pills may be necesary..good luck
