Hi
Everything in moderation is a good approach, however, consider the following:
Keep the saturated fat to about 7% of your total calories
Read labels and avoid "trans fat" or partially hydrogenated fat
Keep your fiber upwards of 25-30 grams per day
Make sure you are drinking adequate fluid, at least 8 cups per day (but dont over do it too quickly)
Keep your sodium intake at around 2000-3000gm per day. An
individual item should have less than 300 mg of sodium and a meal should have less than 800 gm of sodium
Have a good source of Omega 3 fat daily (salmon, walnuts, canola oil, ground flax seed or a supplement such as coromega)
EXERCISE! at least 30-60 mins per day
Red meat (if you eat it) 3x per week
Skin off chicken, fat off meat
bake, broil, steam meats
Try to choose 100% whole grain starches, ones with at least 2-3 gm of fiber per serving
At least 3 servings of vegetables per day
2-3 servings of fruit
2 servings of dairy
(though these could change based on your calorie needs)
I think thats about all the general advice
