A mate said 'cockaroaches are the cleanest bugs in the world', and I have to PROVE him wrong to get a sixpack of beer and enormous self satisfaction. I think bees and phasmids are, but need to prove it

Your friend is wrong cockroaches are the dirtiest and the nastiest bugs on the earth ;

Cockroaches and disease

There is a possibly apocryphal story of the effects of cockroaches in a clean but overcrowded dwelling where a large number of children occupied a single bedroom. it was observed that none of the children had eyebrows and it was discovered that cockroaches were feeding on the eyebrows while the children slept, there being no other source of food available.

Whether or not this story is true, cockroaches are implicated in the transfer of disease. They are bearers of pathogens such as salmonella and staphylococcus. They have been associated with outbreaks of gastro-enteritis, typhus and skin diseases. They taint human food. They are a particular menace in hospitals.

Contact with cockroaches can lead to a number of allergic illnesses, including dermatitis, urticaria (another skin disease), rhinitis, bronchitis and asthma. Laboratory workers involved in the breeding of cockroaches for research are particularly prone to these conditions.

Some people have an aversion to cockroaches amounting to phobia and can suffer anxiety when in the presence of the insects.

So i say the Praying Manthis cause it eats the cockroaches

I doubt you will be able to prove such a thing. They (cockroaches) are thought of as 'dirty' because of environments they live in. That does not make them 'dirty'! Rather like saying pigs are dirty because they happen to like wet mud! I think you'll have to split the sixpack and neither of you will 'win'!!! :-)

I'd say ants are pretty close. However, the question needs to be more specific.

Clean as in cleaning themselves/keeping themselves clean or cleaning a house or building?
