Yes, alcohol can evaporate... although alcoholic drinks are far less than 100% alcohol. It will depend on the temperature, though in most cases the loss will not be noticable if the cap is only off for a few days.

My understanding of the process behind alcohol becoming "stale" is that it has more to do with particulate matter (dust or what have you) getting in the alcohol. Storing it in the freezer will therefore not do any more to prevent this process than simply capping the bottle. Because alcoholic drinks above about 35% are incredibly stable, it is very difficult for them to undergo too significant of a change over even a great amount of time.

As to the origin of the term "angel's share," it refers to the quantity of alcohol that is lost to evaporation during the process of barrel aging a wine or dark spirit. It originated in Scotland, if memory serves, where the Scots thought that their scotch whiskey was so good that the angels would take their share while it was still aging in the barrel.

Yes it will, and even when the cap is screwed on, some of the alcohol may evaporate in time. This of course depends on the temperature of the room and also to the quality of the cap. Recently, while I was cleaning up at my mother's request, I found a bottle of blended Scotch and a bottle of local brandy (Cyprus), unopened, to have lost about 1/5 of the liquid. The tin caps were apparently not of high quality to prevent evaporation. Add to that the high heat of our long summers (100+F/40+C) and the alcohol evaporated.

Considering that vodka is about 40% alcohol and each bottle is about 600ml (depending on brand) then you drank in total about 3 litres of vodka in turn meaning you have drunk about 1.2 litres of pure alcohol. 1 bottle is enough to kill a man (sometimes) so you might have got tricked or have drunk something else than vodka.

Most definitely yes. But it will take some time for it to be significantly stale. e.g. Opening a new bottle and letting it sit in room temp, it will take a week or so before the taste of it is noticably different.
