While pills have their uses, I tend to be anti-pill if at all possible. Sleeping and "relaxation" pills even more so then any other types of pills. Sleeping pills certainly are an option, but I believe that are only for short time useage. This means if there is an on going problem, you still need to address the cause and fix it. I am not a doctor, nor have I taken sleeping pills, so I may be wrong on this point.
Often trouble sleeping can be due to behavior before bedtime. It depends greatly on your lifestyle but sleeping problems often mean you need to change one or many things.
It seems caffeine is a big problem with most people. Drinking caffeine can affect some people up to eight hours before bedtime, keeping their system active and thus making it difficult to sleep. My first recommendation is to cut out all caffeine (or as much as possible) for a few days to see if it helps.
Also, try to change what you do right before you go to bed. An hour before bedtime should ideally be spent in a relaxing state. Often reading a book (a fun and simple book, not a textbook/scary book) will calm most people down.
My personal favorite is listening to soft music while drinking chamomile tea or warm milk. These drinks have been proven to have a calming effect. A small amount of honey will make this all the more effective.
Lastly, if your bedtime isn't consistent that can sometimes lead to sleeping problems as well.

It's an option and may be a quick solution which is certainly necessary for your health. If taken for a few nights it may help you to get back in the routine of sleep when you are tired. However you should also do some natural remedies that can be better for you in the long run and certainly less costly. For instance make preparations for sleep by having a warm bath putting on your favorite pajamas but nothing too exciting... read a book in bed and again nothing too exciting....close your eyes relax your body think pleasant thoughts or maybe even count sheep. Reading books on problems with sleeping can also be very tiring which is the state you are trying to achieve so good luck and pleasant dreams which you may miss out on if you take sleeping tablets !!!

Sleeping pills are something that should be a last resort. Not only are most of them addictive, but they can make you groggy during the day, and some will give you really weird dreams.
Try natural remedies first. I swear by Melatonin. It's a hormone naturlally produced by our bodies in response to darkness. They don't knock you out like the sleeping pills do, but make you feel naturally very sleepy. I'm a shift worker and it's saved my life. Still best to ask your Dr or at least pharmacist before you take it.

I'm having the same problem.
I've noticed the less, noise, and light help me a lot.
The firmness of your mattress and pillow can affect it too.
But what really helps me is to drink a glass of water, and get nice and warm. But I still have trouble.
Having my back rubbed seems to relax me so much and I pass out.
I would suggest having a boyfriend, husband, or your mother rub your back when you can't sleep.
Helped with my kids.
:]
Good luck, But don't try sleeping pills, they have bad side effects.

Sleeping tablets can be addictive if taken for long periods of time.
Have you tried taking Valerian tablets they are natural and they don't make you feel tired the next day.

If i were you, i will not take sleeping pills. i would rather meditate for 10 minutes before i go to sleep. meditating will help you to relax your muscles and nerves. thus, this enable you to have a good night sleep.
