Well, sometimes, as others have said, yes. It helps if you use lubricant, being sore is often just from too much friction during sex... you know, if it's been a little rough, or gone on for quite a while.
Now, if you're sore after every time you have sex, and you haven't recently lost your virginity (I'm assuming you're a girl here, Laura, correct me if I'm wrong!) it could be something more serious. Sex can hurt the first few times you do it, but it should become pain-free after the first few attempts. The vagina has an amazing capacity to stretch and accommodate a lot of things (it's where the babies come out afterall) so if your vagina hurts after sexual intercourse and it hasn't been rough or taken three billion hours, there might (might, I'm not trying to freak you out) be cause for concern. Try lubricant though, ask your partner to be more gentle perhaps, and then if your vagina continues to be hurt post-coitus maybe see your doctor.
