The first glaring clue is that this genius is using Yahoo! as an e-mail service. If he truly was a detective, he'd be using the e-mail address given to him by his department, which would be tied in to the city; for example, joe_dpg@dallaspolice.org.

The second glaring clue is that the police never - NEVER - contact individuals by e-mail when they need to talk to them. They show up at your door, but they don't send e-mail.

I would strongly recommend that you report this e-mail to Yahoo! so they can delete his account. Not that he won't show up again under a different name, but you have to do what you can.

Naturally, I wouldn't respond to the e-mail if i were you.

Police departments do not us Yahoo as mail servers. They generally are tied in to the city they originate from. As far as being pulled over by an unmarked car. I have a sign under my seat that says " I will head the the nearest police station...then we can talk" I place it in the window when they appear. You can never be too safe now a days.

You might be able to call the dpd and ask for Joe the detective and prove to yourself that he is real or not real, but why? Usually dpd is not contacting you to do you a favor.
Good luck.
