I don't think this reason is mentioned in any of Hindu mythological books. This was one of the norms in those days to sit on tiger skin for any puja to display power and confidence.

A demon had taken the form of a tiger and attempted to kill Lord Shiva. He killed him, skinned him and since then uses his hide to meditate on.

Please, NO MORE TIGER SKINS. The latest estimation for tiger population in India (2003 data) is 1800 - 2000 individuals. It is 2007 now and populations will have declined since the above estimates were calculated. This animal is at serious risk of dissapearing off the face of the earth altogether. Don't even SAY "tiger skins"!!!!!!!!!!!

It's only a myth. A human fantasy of something that he not really know or understand. Why you have to think about it ? The truth must not be like that. Only God and Lord Shiva know the truth...

I'm guessing that the tiger is one of the deity form.After all Hindu believe that God exist in all form.
