Stick with XP Pro!

Vista is (still) buggy, and crashes and stuff... Doesn't the fact they're giving away free upgrades arouse any suspicions? I've tested vista too, and it's unstable, you'll have problems with finding drivers, and older applications won't work at all. XP has finally become mature with service pack 2, and i don't think Vista will mature until it gets its own SP2 released.

Download Windows Upgrade Advisory and it will tell you what you want to know. Ive checked for my Comp (windows XP Home) And amongst other things I have to uninstall my security McAfee and I must`nt re-install it. There are also many other issues. After I`ve done all this it says I can have the Vista Home Basic package
Mother is it worth it.

Well if you get an "UPGRADE" in Xp tht means you have a Theme Pack tht changes the look of your Xp to match Vista.
Vista is entirely a new OS and be careful.... you should have a HUGE, POWERFUL system to use it. My suggestions....Stick with XP.....there is no urgency. when software will be getting produced only for Vista will be a LONG LONG time after in future...

it depends on the computer capabilitys if you dont have at least a gig of memory and 2.0GHZ prosseser your com will run slow if you upgrade to vista / talking from experiance xp is still better vista looks good but isnt better / if its just a transformation pack you have then it will cause no end of problems for you your best of just sticking with what you have if you have the xp disk then you could upgrade and if you didnt like it then you can reinstall xp the choise is yours

Can I ask how you got a free upgrade as I would like one. The only thing that is putting me off is the price as I think you should always try to stay ahead as best you can with anything to do with the internet. I am perplexed as to why we are being charged as this will devide those that have and those that don't, can't understand the reason except making an easy buck, disappointing of Windows to do this.

I'd stick with what you have for a number of reasons.
Vista is resource hungry. You need about a gig of memory to get it to work well.
First releases shouldn't be put on. Wait for the first service pack (it is ms so there will be one). There is a period of time to iron out the niggles.
Do you really want an OS with DRM (digital rights management) built in? It could restrict what multimedia you have.
If it aint broke don't change it. If you really want a new os then try linux.

Stick with XP. Vista is buggy, makes much greater demands on your hardware and has not been well tested by consumers yet. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
