It was said that if God came forth with undeniable signs believing in Him would no longer be "believing", but knowing. Sorta like what happened with Jesus and Thomas after the resurrection. I'm not Christian to quote the actual verses to you, but the idea was "blessed are those that believe without definite proof."

So God is "shy and backwards in coming forwards" for humans to be able to believe and be blessed and redeemed and all that.

That all depends on your conception of God. Gnostics believe that this world is ruled by an evil spirit (Yaldaboath or Jehovah in the OT) and that the true God's power is limited in this realm (of darkness) due to his nature as pure light. Which is why he sends his only begotten son, Christ (in the form of Jesus, Krishna, Buddha, Mithra, etc.) to guide people to him. Unfortunately the message usually gets messed up in a world ruled by the evil one, so he must continually make return trips to try to set the message straight.

~ God is a GENTLEMAN. Would you want a General Patton yelling in your ears to REPENT - REPENT - REPENT, YOU SINNER?

No, of course not... you would reject Him even more.
