Welcome to the Black Sheep Club. There is one in every family so don't feel bad about it. Over time many people in your family will change their attitudes regarding you.
There is nothing wrong with being different. Criticism is somewhat difficult to deal with but is normal everyone receives it in life.
Best thing is don't let it get you down. Just be thankful you are not a bad person and that you have your own individual personality.

Yes, I have always felt like the black sheep of the family. It just seems that I have always been a bit different than the rest of the family. It used to bother me, but I now accept the fact that while I am part of the family and love them all dearly, I am just different and different can be a good thing.

All the time, my family always finds something to criticize me about but then not all of my family is like that with me because my mom loves me for being different and I just ignore my families criticism because they don't contribute anything to my life, the only one I ever do listen to is my mom, dad, and older sister because they love me no matter what I do.

I often feel the same way. I live quite a distance from my family, and when I go to visit them I feel almost like an outsider. My thoughts, opinions, and way of life are in many ways different from theirs and it's very strange to be so different.
All I can tell you is that you have to be who you are. You can't force yourself to change to fit into someone else's image of what you should be. You might want to tell your mom that constantly criticizing you is going to make you even more distant from the family once you're grown and move out. It's hard enough to feel like you don't fit in, but to have it constantly thrown in your face will only drive you away.

i like to think of it as being a nonconformist. i have always had a different way of thinking and have gotten into a lot of disagreements about it.mostly with my dad. it does get better as you get older. parents ,for the most part, believe in tried and true methods and when a view is different and they don't know that it will work, they tend to try to get us to change our viewpoint. many times it's to protect us from possible failure or let down. it takes a while for parents to let their children spread their wings, so to speak. just follow your heart and do what is right for you.
