First, it's NOT illegal to play poker online. They have never arrested or even harassed anyone who did it. The regulations have to do with financial institutions.
Second (in reference to previous poster): Party Poker is no longer offered to US customers. They were (one of?) the first firms to pull out and have been out for months now.
Lastly, the best way to deposit right now is by credit card or something like a Visa gift card. Unfortunately, pretty much the only way to get money out is via a check sent by mail, which is pretty inconvenient.

Antigua had a case against the Internet Gaming Enforcement Act
and won, the WTO voted against US, and more countries will probably follow soon.
There are rules what you can do and cant do when dealing with other countries, and to stop your people from gambling in another country is clearly against those rules.
In the meantime, i play against alot of americans at :http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/
They seem to do quite fine :)
good luck

there are all kinds of depositing options outside of credit cards.
The biggest site is partypoker.com which has just about every option available.
If you sign up there use signup bonus code ACURA and get $100 extra.
Also has great beginners tutorials and playmoney tables to practice first

at www.giftcards.com and the fees are very small.

With a credit card. But I would not suggest it because they are usually ripoffs. You have no way to get your money back because you are breaking the law as much as they are.
