thats a hard one but be sure not to force things upon them or they will go of the rails when older

Talk to them.

Try to talk to youngsters as if they were adults, ask open questions with regard to any problems they have, and ensure you give support , love and help.

Above all, be honest, If there is a problem, bring it out into the open and discuss it.

Can be very hard to do, but I feel this is the best approach.

I talk to my son, that's all it takes to keep him on the right track because he's had 11 years of being raised carefully and lovingly. He has a good firm bases to rely on for making his own choices and I trust him to be responsible and make the right decisions when he is faced with dilemmas. I will always be here for him if he needs me, but he is expected to take his own responsibilities...
