First, rent a car. It doesn't matter what island you visit, you're going to want to be able to see what you want without being at the mercy of some tour group.
On Oahu - Waikiki Beach (great people watching and just generally lovely, plus you can get surfing lessons here where the waves are a bit smaller), Diamond Head (you'll recognize it from pictures; you can also climb it), Haunauma Bay (beautiful, great snorkeling, nation's only underwater national park), Pearl Harbor, Polynesian Cultural Center (if you have a free day and a lot of free money), International Marketplace (fun souvenier shops - right by Waikiki), Haleiwa (north shore surfer town), Sunset Beach (and any other north shore beach you feel like stopping at - they're all lovely and that's where you surfing is), and too many restaurants to mention right now.....
On Maui - Lahaina (old whaling town), drive to Hana (the town isn't much, but the drive is a don't-miss)(it is under 60 miles but it takes at least 3 hours - believe me), Big Beach (you'll have to find it on a map, and it's kind of hidden, but it's worth finding), Haleakala crater (go for sunrise, dress warm!)
Kauai - very quiet island. Very beautiful (you'll want to find the waterfalls because they're gorgeous and famous), but mostly scenery and beaches and not much clubbing or shopping.
Hawaii - (the Big Island). Take a tour here, see the active volcanos. That's all I saw there, so I can't give much else.

Been to 3 islands.
Oahu is the most touristy. Take a day long island tour, you'll cover a lot of ground. Go to Pearl Harbor; it's an eye opener.
Hit the Polynesian Cultural Center. Lots to learn and do! Spectacular show there at night.
The Big Island. Hit Hapuna Beach; one of the 10 most beautiful in the world... and hardly anyone goes! A well kept secret. Also rent a car and drive aroudn the island's perimeter. Worth it! This is the island that also has Volcanoes National Park. Awesome!
Kauai. Take a helicopter tour! Not a lot to do on this island... except relax, relax, relax, Oh! Also get to Ke'e Beach to watch the sunset!

How long will you be there? If yo have the time go islang hoping.
On Oahu, stay out of Waikiki..too many tourist and crowded. Take a drive around the island and see everything. My favorite beach is Lanikai beach on the windward side of the island. Don't forget tot go to Matsumotos to get some shaved ice (snow cone).Check out the north shore near Haleiwa and see the green sea turtles. Hike up Diamondhead, it will take a few hours but worth the view. You must see Pearl Harbor and the other touristy stuff too. If you go to the big island, you must take a helicopter ride over the volcano. If you go to Kauai theres Hanalei valley, Waiamea canyon and fern gratto. On Maui you must get up early in the morning and drive up to Haliakala to see the sun rise. These are just a few suggestions being that I grew up there. When you get hungry try L&L drive-in and Zippys.

MAUI_drive all the way around the west side of the island the views are great. there is also a GREAT banana bread stand called kiki's and it is delicios. then also you must drive to hana. also there is the iao needle/iao valley. that was really beautiful and a VERY short walk. also drive to the top of haleakala. its amazing how the temeraturte changes and it is fun watching hang gliders go off the edge. then there is the hike to the 7pools. i did this a while ago and it was fun. make sure you bring a swim suit so you can enjoy the water!!!then there is hanalua beach and it is a little walk, through a beautiful junge into a GREAT snorkleing bay. also there is kaanapalui beach. it is perfect for everything from cliff diving(i went off and its only like 22feet with high tide) to boogie boarding, and even snorkeling! its my favorite place in the world. then up a little north of that is D.T. Flemming beach. it is perfect for boogie bording, at least in june when i go. i also reccomend eating in lahiana, and shopping there. i also have twice gone parasailing in lahiana and if you like that stuff it was a great veiw!!! they even dip you in the water if you want to. also shopping in whalers village then going out to the beach, its in like south kaanapali i think. also see a luau, and if you already have, like my family, we went to this majic show this last year and it was really fun. if you are interested in scuba diving i was certified there, and it was a great program. i hope that i have helped you!
molokai is very quiet as is lanai. i suggest snorkeling and horseback riding.
oahu:drive to the north shore and go on the famous beach.
hawaii: see the lava fields
kaui-drive around the island and then go on the hike you dont have to go all 10miles or so but do a couple yards it is beautiful.

we went to oahu and here are the things that we seen and they were all great!
-Pearl Harbor & Missouri Battleship - They were awesome and very well worth the time.
-Haenama Bay - Snorkling - it was fun! there were tons of fish and it was just beautiful there.
-International Market Place - Tons of shopping they had everything there and it was reasonably priced as well.
-Swap Meet - its a huge flee market at the Aloha Stadium and it costs three dollars to get in but they have everything imaginable there and its all cheaply priced too.
-Dole Plantation & North Shore Tour - it was very interesting and the Dole Plantation has some of the prettiest gardens i have ever seen.
-Sea Life Park - we went and spent a day there and did their laua. I dont recommend their laua, the food wasnt very good. We heard that Gerrmaines was a good one to go to for what it cost. but sea life park had alot of sea animals and awesome dolphin show as well as a sea lion show too.
-Waikiki Beach - it was fun just to go to the beach and sit around.
-Dukes - its a restraunt right on the beach and it was great!!
-A Restraunt in the Pacific Beach Hotel has a buffet of Crab Legs and Prime Rib plus ALOT of other stuff and its reasonably priced too. Also, they have a three story aquarium that you may be interested in checking out while you are in the Waikiki Area.
Hilo Hatties is also a fun store to look in. They are the store of the Hawaii Islands and its just interesting to look in.
Hope these ideas help you out. Have fun!! its a blast over there, but the plane ride is very long!!!!

Definitely visit 'Iolani Palace in Honolulu on the island of O'ahu.
A Hawaiian national treasure and the only official state residence of royalty in the United States, `Iolani Palace was the official residence of the Hawaiian Kingdom's last two monarchs -- King Kalakaua, who built the Palace in 1882, and his sister and successor, Queen Lili`uokalani. During the monarchy period, the Palace was the center of social and political activity in the Kingdom of Hawai`i. Though its grandeur was neglected after the overthrow of the monarchy, restoration began in the 1970s through efforts of concerned individuals. Restoration and preservation continues, and, as a result, today's visitors to this National Historic Landmark in downtown Honolulu enjoy one of the most precise historic restorations and learn much about Hawaiian history and heritage.

In maui you must go on the molokini snorkel cruise. If you do the timeshare thing, the tour will be almost free. By far the best boat is the 4 winds II. Breakfast and lunch are free. Free drinks including beer and wine. Great boat for kids and adults.
