i think age should not be an issue, but if you're just not into him then try to tell him the truth. Older man are more understanding and caring anyway. If he still doesnt get it with you being honest and nice, try to ask him what he likes about you and do the opposite of whatever he liked about you.
It could a very annoying thing to have someone bugging you all the time, if all else fails change your phone number if you could, avoid places he'd see you.
hope he gets it soon enough.

Give him that tired old line about not wanting to ruin the "friendship". Or "Lets just be friends" They both say "You've been rejected" in a nice way. He'll hate you for using it and you won't have to see him again.

is it only the age thing? b/c if that is all it is then reconsider. do you not have anything in common? no chemistry?
be nice. be kind. and if you really want him out of your life then stop talking to him, he will get that hint for sure.
