Yes it will. But the politics, reservations based on caste are one of the major reasons for this brain drain. I am from the "forward" caste and could not get a seat in MDS due to these reservations. So, I left India and came to US. Now, I am one of less than 12 dentists in the world to have a dual specialty training. In US, you need to be smart but hard work is rewarded. That does not happen in India. But you are already seeing lot of my friends who are software programmers going back to India. This will continue to happen as things are getting better in India.

Hey rasmalai001, you are an ABCD, what do you know about living conditions in India? Visiting India or seeing about India on Discovery Channel is not the same as living In India. Don't judge, unless you lived for an extended period of time in India.

u said now a days people are opting for other countries than India. it was true till a 2005. 2006 studies show that the rate of Indians going abroad has decreased (excluding the visit visa guys). This shows an increasing awareness about Indians in India about the handsome job offerings in India. I believe this rate will go on increasing year after year. which is a good indication towards a devloped India

India is becoming a better place for living day-by-day. As predicted by many international accredition authroirties, India will be worlds second biggest super pwr by 2020. So the people in India are making the difference for the nation.

Abt. ur second question. "can't all educated citizens stay in india and together make it a better pace for living?" No. they dont have to. We hv got enough domestic talent in almost every industry and walk of life to make the 2020 predictions come true. And moreover, we need guys abroad to remit back foriegn currency to India to maintain a fair National Balance Of Trade (for buying products n services from intl markets in order to maintain the current growth rate)

well the fat salaries being offered are too tempting to our educated middle class crowd. Plus i think for some, the caste politics in India haunts them , so they run. if they can take some flak and stay in India and take major cuts is expectations then they all be called great patriots to the tri-colour. With globalisation happening at record pace, hey nobody notices these things these days. what India loses in subsidising the brain drain crowd may come back in the form of foreign investment one day or at least remittance and stabilise your currency [assuming exporters don't crib]

Britain pays to train nurses, who when they qualify move to Australia or New Zealand. They are replaced by Indian nurses. Indian doctors are endemic in the National Health service of the UK.
But now the situation is changing. UK companies 'outsource' their work to India. And people in the UK are going to India for operations, which they can get quicker, better(?) and cheaper than the NHS.
So, the short answer is; Swings and Roundabouts.

India cannot completely get rid of brain drain, mainly coz of its caste based reservation system.
So there is nothing wrong in going to a country which respects and motivates your talent.
But whether they are willing to comeback to India is a question mark.
Why should one leave a country if he/she gets good life style, good health care and good respect for knowledge.

Thats really a good question to ask. I would like to put my point of view on this.
My views differ from your views on this concept called Brain Drain. Do you think a guy from Delhi going to Mumbai just to have a better opportunity is brain drain? I dont think so. The fellow is in no way less attached to his home land even after moving to Mumbai.
In a similar manner, if some Indian goes to US for a better career opportunity, we should not take it as some thing wrong. The day he returns back,he is much more resourceful to us, to his own country. Today we take pride in all the endeavors by people like Amartya sen, Indira Nooyi, late Kalpana Chawla and many more indians abroad. Its only because of the fact that they are contributing more to this world now than they did when they were in India. Though they are not contributing to India directly, they are doing good to the whole world.
Now coming to the people who are contributing directly to India,we see that every year lacs of people go out of India, have better education and skills, make themselves stronger and then come back to contribute in the development of this country in a better way. Our Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh, himself, is an example of this. He is having degrees from Cambridge and Oxford. You may find many such people who are a better human resource to this country only because we allowed them to go out to do something of their own wish.
Now there are people who never come back to give a damn to their motherland. But we cant filter out such people from the crowd of all the people who are emigrating. And everyone should not be punished because of such people.
I believe that the love of ur motherland always remains in ur heart and every NRI looks for the ways to come back to india, given a chance.
To conclude, i would like to say, that the phenomenon called brain drain is a necessary evil for the country, hence it must continue.

I'm an American Born Indian, and it's apalling to hear of conditions in India - what with the caste slavery, acid attacks and people living in squalor.

I'm surprised that any Indian wouldn't jump at the chance to come to the United States!

India has so much brain power, a little brain drain has negligible negative impact. NRI send foreign exchange to india also, so no problem.
