You will never be able to grow up if you just want home made food only. You like home made food mainly because you are accustomed to the style your mummy cooks. Try to appreciate food that is cooked by someone else.

Treat the hostel as your own home and you will enjoy the food gradually.

I sympathise. What other people seem to be asuming is that you are in a Youth Hostel, but perhaps you are in a hostel for the homeless.

If this is the case, you could try approaching an organisation that offers to give, or sell cheap, stuff that you might need such as a microwave, which takes up little room and is helpful to make up snacks and meals etc, particularly when it has a grill.

It is difficult to give you any specifics, because you do not give any taste preferences, allergies etc.

Hope this helps.

Do you have access to a kitchen? If so, you can check around for familiar ingredients, and whip up something.

Depending on how you get along with the host, you can ask her to let you use the kitchen, and then offer to help with that meal and share your dish with everyone there...it would be a help to the host, a secondary culture experience for other travellers, and if there are any of your fellow countrymen there, a taste of home.

I'm sure you are enjoying the experience of another coutry but I can understand if you are a bit homesick. Are you backpacking your way through a foreign country?

1 - Have you tried asking if you could help in the kitchen? Or might you be able to use the kitchen when it's available?
2 - Quit being so fussy! Part of the fun of travelling is trying new foods.
