I think the two are different. Say your little one needs antibiotics, wouldn't you get them a prescription? I do agree when it comes to stuff like ADD, ADHD drugs.

I think that there is a difference between prescription and recreational drugs. I do think that prescription can be abused aswell so it is important to tell kids why and when to use those and why not to use recreational and/or abuse prescription drugs. Also, before resorting to prescriptions I would hope parents look into different avenues like diet, counseling and get second opions.

No. What if you have epilepsy? What if you need those pills because you are severely autistic or have ADHD and they help? I think that there is a time and a reason for everything. One of my cousins is ADD, and don't even tell me that they just sent him to the dr and loaded him up for the hell of it. Without his daily pill he can, literally, barely function. Now that he is older he INSISTS on taking them because without it he can't sit still, his mind races and he drives himself mad.
By the way, he never did drugs despite the fact he had a prescription since he was little.

No because prescription medication and cocaine are two totally different things! Some people need more medicine then others for ear infections, for seizures, for heart mummers. It's important to keep kids off of drugs and I'm pretty sure that most teens know what those drugs are: marijuana, cocaine, heroine, and so on...

either we are against drugs or we are only against some drugs
then we have to figure out what makes a bad and waht makes a good drug

So, what should we parents say then? 'OK kids, take hallucinogenic opiates! It's fun!'
As for prescription medicines...fine, next time your kid has an abscess the size of a piglet on his jaw, YOU explain to him why he can't have penicillin.

You said it. My boys kindergarten teacher insisted he needed ritalin. We gave him Omega 3/6/9 fatty acid supplements ... 2 weeks later his teacher said "Wow, the ritalin really works." Now, we just give him lots of fish and flax bread, and he's fine.

yes! there are so many people who bring their children to doctors b/c they are restless and they think the have ADD. personally I think it is a cop out. children are restless!!! probably 80% of those kids don't really have anything medically wrong with them at all!
