I have one card. But I want a larger limit. Should I apply for another with a larger limit, or can I do it with this itself? How do I go about it. If someone can shed some light...would be appreciated.

From a credit management standpoint, it would be better for you to keep one card and just have the credit limit raised. Too many credit cards with various limits not only get out of control, but they don't look as good on a credit report as one card.

Call the number on the back of the card, or, if it was issued by your bank, call them. Ask them for a credit review and tell them you would like the limit raised. It's a good idea to have a number in mind when you call them, so that you can tell them how much you would like it raised. Depending on the company, they may be able to raise it right then, or they may do a review of your records, and then contact you with information. It's also possible they will turn you down altogether, or that the raise they offer is not large enough for your needs.

If you need $1500 more on your limit, tell them that, and they will sometimes negotiate with you on it. However, if they look at your credit and your income and determine you will have a hard time paying those bigger payments, they may not budge on their offer.
If that is the case, don't get a new card right away. Instead, ask them what you need to do to get approved for the limit you need. It may be something as simple as paying your balance down by half, or paying on time every month for six consecutive months. Do what they tell you to do, and be sure to follow it exactly, and then call them back and ask again.

Best of luck to you!

Some credit card companies will periodically review your account and raise your limit. However, if you have had the card and shown your ability to repay your debt, you can call the issuer and ask they raise you credit limit. They may do this after a year of demonstrating your ability to repay. If you have only been paying the minimum amount each month, they may not be willing to raise your limit. Be careful, credit cards are the way most people get into financial trouble.

the first thing you have to secure is that you have a good debt record. Having good credit record will be the key to the credit limit approval. If you have establish a good credit records then call or write to your credit card company that you would like to increase your credit limit.

More often, the credit card company will be the one to offer you bigger limit as long as they find you a good debtor.

normally the credit card company calls me whenever they want to increase my credit card limit. they based their criteria on my tax return and on-time payment schedules. they usually increase my credit limit every year.

if you want a larger limit but have not receive a call from the them you may write them and most of the time they usually approves it.

if you can stick with one or two cards only the better because the interest rates can be minimal.

hope this helps.
