i'm an cse student , what am i going to do by studying civil, mechanical , electrical , chemistry and environmental scince?
i think it would be better if we start learning about computer from the first year itself.
"life is very short
but runs fast "
there's a lot to learn (for me about comp)
so i think that we are wasting 1 yr , its just not 1 yr ,a part of life..................

Our professors told us that it was "foundation" knowledge and that even if we say no point to it in our youthful desire to learn only what we thought we would need to know, someday we would put little pieces of it together and come up with something that would make us grateful.

So, as a student in Computer Science and Electronics Engineering, I studied surveying. And drafting. And all sorts of stuff. My freshman roommate was a very bright guy and just couldn't spend his time on that sort of stuff, so he did other things. He was flunked out.

I must confess that now, about 40 year later, well.....the professors were right. So, just hang in there. The really good stuff is coming. Patience.

You might be surprised by how much different fields of study intersect. It might seem that those fields are unrelated, but engineering in itself is a way of thinking, not necessarily just formulas from a book. Problem-solving is universal, and studying different things prepares your mind for learning the same way warming up prepares your body for exercise.

It's also my experience that you never stop learning about a field that moves as quickly as computers, so don't think you're done after you get your degree.
