Maybe a long shot here but maybe they are tired of being shot at, blown up, beheaded and dying in general. I know I would be.
Think about what they went through:
1.) Weapons of Mass Destructions in Iraq.
"Ok, we'll fight to protect the US."
then, "No weapons sir."
2.) Saddam Hussein is helping Al'Qaeda.
"Ok, we'll fight to protect the US."
then, "No links to Al'Qaeda before the invasion sir. In fact it seems they came in after the invasion to kill US soldiers."
3.) Saddam Hussein is a bad man.
"Ok, we'll fight to protect the US."
then, "Okay we got him sir. Killed his sons and captured his buddies."
4.) We need to spread democracy.
"Ok, we'll fight to protect the US.
then, "The Sunnis and Shi'ite care less sir."
I don't know about you, but I would have been fed up around step 2. The fact that soldiers haven't mass mutinied is a testement to the loyalty they have to our country. I for one would not have blamed them one bit.

The reason that many in the military are now against this occupation stems from an old military saying, "Poor planning produces piss poor results!" The administration failed miserably in their planning for the aftermath of the invasion, lacked an exit strategy, and has compounded the problem with the incompetence of the CPA, (Coalition Provisional Authority). Now America is attempting to resolve a civil war, with both sides shooting at us. Many in the military can see the results of the administration's failures, and are no longer willing to see their buddies dying for the wrong reasons.

I'm not truly turning against the role we are playing in Iraq, I know that we have done some amazing things for the iraqi people, i know, i just returned from the baghdad area after my year deployment. What you dont see on television is the good news, the schools being rebuilt, hospitals and things of that nature, but i believe it is time for us to leave. Let the Iraqi people fix their country, we have done enough, and i am tired of my friends dying. I don't want to hear anymore about my friends not making it back, because people cant stop fighting over a stupid religion, it has nothing to do with us anymore...basically i just miss some friends and want my brothers and sisters in the military to get home to their families.

Iraq war was presumably a war against terror, a war against the evil that wield WMD, and a vengeance to 911. These reasons are overwhelming to fight for and worth dying to suppress. But It all turned out to be a tyrant and despotic ruler who kill innocent lives, housed no weapon of mass destruction, and has little or nothing to do with 911. Do you still want to fight anymore? Soldiers live by a strict code of ethics, to obey and protect they did what was told and found being used and misled by some politicians. Do you think any soldier with a right frame of mine would still want to dwell on?

Cause they see the same news we do.
I did ten years.
I don't understand why people believe that military people are lockstepping robots.
They vote via absentee ballot and we know how that election turned out.
The individuals in the military can think for themselves.
As to how vocal they can be when expressing their opinions is somewhat muted by a few regulations mainly concerned with good order and discipline.
Military people are not stupid.

It was a premetive strike. With no thought or startegy. And, threw troops in a huge mixing bowl. Anyone who deals in Strategics will tell you. "WE NEED A PLAN BEFORE IT CAN GO INTO ACTION."
Bush Jr and Rumsfield had no plan just attack and worry about the clean up after the war is over. And, this war has been over with since Saddam got captured time to go home.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Same as Vietnam. After a while people lose interest and want it to end! How many stories are there about the Tsunami victims anymore?
Just make it go away! America has become an I want it now society if they can't have it now they do not want it at all.

I would assume that, rather than having a little bit of honor, they would prefer to pretend they didn't know that they volunteered for war.
Not a lot of militery members oppose the war, just the people you see on CNN. The people with whom I serve don't mind it; some want to get extended.
It should be said that very few people enjoy going to war, but every service member understands that it is his job.
