if you were trapped inside a typical full-service grocery store with no running water, phone or electricity..how long could you hope to survive? you have only the supplies in the store (and their respective expiry dates) to save you. and, you are alone.

If you were smart, many years. Most full service stores have a pharmacy (chemicals-cleaning supplies are also chemicals) and a well stocked magazine rack (survivalist/back to the land magazines). With these you could find out how to set up a chemical toilet (sanitation), possibly build a wind mill (power), treat disease (reading drug inserts etc.). Save seeds from fresh fruit/veggies to plant in the soil from the "gardening aisle". Why, though, am I not making a survival pack and trying to escape from this trap?

Well, most stores have bottled water and canned foods(they have a long shelf life), so you could survive for a long time trapped in a store, actually. And being that you are in there by yourself, you will not have to compete for food and water because IT'S ALL YOURS!

Cheers

I guess you could probably live in there for about a year or more (a very long time).. depending on how big the store was... and depending on how healthy you were (no prior illnesses, etc).. you'd think you have enough food and water.. and there should be a bathroom in there somewhere.. so, you are all set.

I'd say you could survive a couple of years unless the reason your hiding is a zombie attack then you have until the movie ends or the franchise sizzles out :P

Probably several years with all the fruit juices, sodas, food, and other supplies.

Most stores stock charcoal, lighter fluid and matches so you could barbecue the fresh meat before it spoils and heat up other things when all the fresh meat is gone..

I would hope to survive till I'm to old to live, but the loneliness would be the hardest part to survive.

can't believe I sat here and worried about this hypothetical question for 20 minutes. Can't cook. All that food is going to go bad. No sanitary conditions. Disease would probably kill you before starving to death.
