As long as you are legally employable in the United States you can apply for a government job. Go to www.usajobs.com to do a search of jobs

That depends on the employment criteria set by a particular branch of local, state or Federal government office.

I'd break out the good ol' Yellow Page phonebook and pour over the Government contact section to find the area of employment you're interested in. You're looking for the Human Resource office when you call; they can answer your questions.

Bear in mind, this is government work you seek. Be prepared for your call(s) to be put "on hold" forever, directed all over the place (possibly across country) and even misdirected to the wrong branch office division all together (this happened to me once).

all you have to do is take the civil service exam, i hear its easy and they grade you and depending on that grade you can get certain jobs.
