When you upgrade your XP system to Vista, it will break a LOT of stuff and cause you no end of grief. What you need to do is backup all your data (check 3 times to be sure you've got it all!) Once you've moved it off your system, take your upgrade disc and boot off it. When it asks you for the CD Key, DO NOT PUT IT IN, it will install a trial of Vista. Once that has completed, you can run your disc again from within the trial and then put your key in to upgrade your trial to a full Vista install. Tada, fresh install with no problems! At least, that is what I am hearing is the process. My boyfriend recently did an upgrade install and it broke his Outlook so he had to do a clean install (he has a retail copy of Ultimate though). So your milage may vary.

You have driver/software issues! Check each of your games and see if the manufacturer has VISTA drivers for the game.
XP drivers, mostly, will not work.
This is the same for all Operating Systems. WIN 95 drivers may not work in XP, etc, etc, etc.
You may have to completely reinstall your system to clean up the REGISTRY!
That will include a NEW, clean install of XP, motherboard drivers & utilities, and then your VISTA UPGRADE software.
During installation, delete all disk partitions, create new partition
25GB, Install XP and Vista Update into that partition.
Disconnect system from Internet until VISTA is installed and Anti Virus and Firewall are up and running.
Go to www.microsoft.com and let that site update VISTA for you.

You shouldn't have gotten vista in the first place. You should have downloaded the "WINDOWS VISTA UPGRADE ADVISOR" before getting Vista, that's how you find out what programs of your will work with vista. In my case I have a lot of programs that I have to download again or get from vendors, that's why I aint getting it, and I got my Vaio "windows vista ready" for a "free" upgrade.
