Flouride is a big issue. Many countries have banned the fouridation of water supplies.
Flouride makes the surface of your teeth harder and stronger by helping remineralization and inhibits plaque bacteria's ability to produce the acids that cause decay. It is a good idea, IMO to have SOME flouride. I use flouride toothpaste. In this way, I can control the amount of flouride on my teeth and use it as I see fit.
My dentist's assistant said I had very "aggressive" plaque bacteria and advised me to get a medicinal flouride rinse (not just a "mouthwash with flouride"). She wanted me to get the type dosed for weekly use and use it DAILY.
Personally, I am not comfortable with that level of flouride. If you do an internet search of "floride" you'll find lots of info on the harmful health effects. I rinse my mouth with diluted Hydrogen Peroxide instead.
There are good sides and bad sides. You have to decided what you would personally consider "harmful".

Fluoride is very important for your teeth. When you're little your mom puts fluoride vitamins in your food or in her prenatal vitamins - this strengthens your developing teeth. But as an adult it doesn't matter how much fluoride is in the food or water you consume, you don't have any teeth that are developing. You need to brush with a fluoride toothpaste because it strengthens the teeth that are already in your mouth. It can also help strengthen areas that have started to decalcify. (Areas that have started to form cavities but haven't broken into the dentin.) If you consume too much fluoride then it will make you ill so that is why fluoride toothpastes are on the market, for children who swallow everything, or for people who have a fluoride allergy, but unless you fit either of those profiles I suggest you brush with just a normal toothpaste. Unless you have weaker enamel in which case I suggest you ask your dentist about a higher fluoride concentrated toothpaste called Prevident which will help with that.

Absolutely fluoridated. Fluoride is the best prevention of cavities. It strengthens teeth, decreases bacteria from binding to the teeth, and inhibits bacterial growth in the mouth. Fluoride is not controversial if only used in the mouth. If you drink a lot of tea w/ F- or swallow a teaspoon of F- a day then you can harm your bones. There is a reason that dentists give patients with lots of cavities 5-10x's the normal concentration of F-. It works and has for decades.

Becareful, too much flouride is bad for your teeth. Also no flouride is harmful as well, lose lose situation. Just mix it up to be safe. Too much will rub the enamel off.

I DON'T THINK FLUORIDE IS GOOD FOR YOU. However many dentists recommend using it to check tooth decay. If its replacing the calcium and other minerals then shouldn't we just throw the fluoride away and get a more calcium and mineral rich diet. I think magnesium is also one of the main minerals that make up bone. Perhaps people with cavities need to supplement that as well as calcium.

please note that fluoride toothpaste is the best for people with weak tooth enamel. Also it is not harmful for other people. Use Colgate Total 12 for it is the best in floridated toothpaste in India. Also a mouthwash named Colgate PLAX is prescribed as it helps also in removing plaque formed between meals. also visit ur dentist & get information about a therapy called florination to be done every 6 months.
Pl note: DO NOT START ANY THERAPY STATED ABOVE WITHOUT CONSULTING UR DENTIST AS MORE FLORIDE IS HARMFUL FOR UR TEETH.IT MAY DECOLOURISE.

above 7 yrs one should use fluoridated toothpaste for its beneficial effects, but below 7yrs of age nonfluoridated toothpaste is better because a child may intentionally swallow the paste which can lead to fluoride toxicity.
but controlled fluoride therapy for a child is highly recommended under dentist supervision/guidance
