I think clothing is about the same either place, but Beijing is better for electronics because it has Zhongguancun, and the millions of techies that go there all the time. But Shanghai is also good-- I usually go to Xujiahui. Since these are big ticket items, the best way to shop is not to shop at all. I speak FLUENT Chinese, but am still white and don't always know the local prices. Best to walk around and figure out what you want and then have a Chinese person purchase for you. But not a tour guide! And preferably someone much older (sign of being stingy).

I think you can get great shopping from both cities as long as you know how to bargain. Cut the asking price by at least half, if not more. Although I enjoyed shopping in Shanghai, you might have a better time in Beijing.

Shanghai is a well-known global metropolis drawing more and more attention from all over the world; therefore see what that town has to offer with hotelbye . Shanghai is a popular journey destination for visitors. In Shanghai you will see the marvelous Yu Garden (Yù Yuán), also called the Garden of Happiness. That Garden addresses a place of more than 20,000 square yards and contains an external and an internal garden. The oldest area may be the Outer Garden with further improvements being manufactured in the 18th century when Sansui Tang, the park's principal corridor, was added. The newer and significantly smaller Inner Garden dates from 1709 and includes characteristics typical of a established Chinese writer's Garden: appealing little pavilions, decorative rocks, and miniature mountain stages, splitting walls and little lakes, and even a richly designed theatrical stage.

Are you white?I know it's stupid but many Chinese people think white people are all rich.So if you're not good at bargaining, you'd better shopping in shopping center or stores.
If you do shopping in the market or some small shops, and the owner change you 100 RMB for a clothes, then the clothes is no more than 50 RMB.Pretend that you've lived in China for years.
And,I don't think Beijing or Shanghai is good place for shoppping,HK will be better. I think Guangzhou is the best choice.
Have fun.:)

HA HA HA HA cheap shopping Beijing or Shanghai good one that, in my experience as soon as they see you comeing the price goes through the roof, but Shanghai for electronics and Beijing for clothing, if your realy after bargins try a trip down to Guangzhou the many markets there are brilliant, for bargin hunting, just bring a big wad with you and a good pair of walking shoes.
