If you check out both these future pets and actually are so interested, you may find that it is nice to try out both dog breeds. Spend time in a kennel with breeders of each nature. I am a fan of the German Shepard, But Rotties are so good also. And If I may have my two cents worth, I'd prefer a male dog. Much friendlier I believe.. personally. Also. if you spend time researching each breed with a successful breeder (you do not have to buy such the expensive line) Then you will learn an more than anyone can offer you here.

Best of luck to you as a pet owner!

German Shepherds are yesterday's news. They just cannot compete with other dogs. They are great police dogs but lets face it we are not in the police force. I would only want a dog that can be both a family pet and number one protector of the home.
Personally, I would not choose either dog you propose. However, between the two it would be a Rottie everytime. Lets face it these dogs just look like what they are: Strong, mean fighting machines. A neighbour was broken into a few months ago and the Rottie ran downstairs after the intruder. Believe me the intruder ran for his stupid, little life. Personally, I own an Akita and in my opinion they are the best guard dog you could own. The only dog better at guarding is a Fila Brasiliero but they are just plain dangerous. They are both human and dog aggressive. Too much dog for me. Good luck, ( please don't get a German Shepherd they bark too much and just look naff)

both r good dogs, but I would go with the rottie, they are great dogs if trained correctly. It depends on what type of dog you like though, i like the look of rotties better, but that's just my opinion, and which ever dog you get you will love, regardless of weather its a rott or a shepard.

german shepard. They are loyal and loving. Rotties are too,but they have a different personality, and as they get older tend to become very over protective which can lead to a dominance problem and a problem with other people comming over to your home.
A shepard is more of a family dog, they will stick by your side

I would suggest a German Shepherd. . Sheps are a good versatile all around dog and adptable to most lifesyles.. I have had both, and love both breeds.

Rotties are generally more laid back, vcalmer and more prone to a couch potato lifestyle, Shepherds tend to have more energy, sometimes neurotic, and they need regular activity to occupy their brains. Shepherds are more high maintenance, but are super intelligent, so if you have a busy lifestyle or want to do agility training, sheps are better for that than rotts. If you want a house dog, go with the rott. If you want a jogging buddy, go with the shep.

Shepherd owner here (Bo)...my daughter has a rot named Cookie...

Both our dogs are papered - purebread purchased within a few months of each other and trained by the same trainer...my dog is better behaved, more often and more loving.

I also have had less barking, less digging and less jumping...

Research them first to find out which one your lifestyle is most compatible with. There are always different charicteristics in different breeds of dogs. Some may not work for you. Check out the website below.

I suggest a lab. German Shepherds get bad hips and Rotts' behaviour too unpredictable. Get a lab; easy to train, great with kids, great temperment, you can't go wrong with a lab, especially a female.
