converses with people to getthem on his side and plays off their strong points,but in reality doesn't give a crap about them and is really just using them as props to make hinself look good?

You are describing 'showmanship'.
A true sociopath really does not distinguish between right and wrong, and does whatever is most expedient, no matter who it hurts, as long as his action achieves his goal.

Sounds more like a narcissist.

A sociopath is hostile to or disruptive of normal standards of social behavior; or someone who performs criminal behavior or conduct that violates the rights of other individuals

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-IV, , defines antisocial personality disorder as a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others occurring since age 15, as indicated by three (or more) of the following:

-failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest
-deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure
-impulsivity or failure to plan ahead
-irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults
-reckless disregard for safety of self or others
-consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain steady work or honor financial obligations
lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another

The manual lists the following additional necessary criteria:

The individual is at least 18 years of age.
There is evidence of conduct disorder with onset before age 15 years.
The occurrence of antisocial behavior is not exclusively during the course of Schizophrenia or a Manic Episode.

This could be a person with narcissistic personality disorder, someone with a passive-aggressive personality...there are many disturbed people with entirely different mental disorders who may behave in such a manner.

Yes, a sociopath care nothing and I mean nothing about anyone else or anything at all. he only cares about himself. He has no emotions or feelings. They are cold blooded and have the attitude of being able to kill anyone and not blink an eye about it.

I think you are partly right. this kind of person is always trying to make himself look better than he is in part due to low self esteem. this type of person is a chronic liar and can and will use people to get what he or she wants. they can roll play very well.
