the car overheated, how can i know if is the thermostat or something else?

The thermostat would be a good place to start, but one they are cheap and change it and see how it goes from there.

Could be several things: the thermostat, the fan may not be working to cool down the radiator, the water pump, the radiator itself may be leaking. Take it to a technician.

run the car if it starts to overheat your fans should turn on. oif not its your fans that dont work
