My son has Aspergers Syndrome (in the Autistic Spectrum). He is six years old and I know he is viewed differently by his peers. I can only hope he becomes this High Functioning as an adult. Do you know anyone with Aspergers or Autism? ABC News link on Daniel Tammet:

Thank you for all of your responses! I don't like having to "pick" a Best Answer when so many are kind and helpful!
My son is in the Public School system and receives "special services". He is a whiz at reading and arithmetic, but his Fine Motor Skills (writing and drawing) are poor. He told his brother that he's a "freak"...so I know he's feeling different and being picked on. As a parent you want to protect your child (especially if they are so vulnerable) to the nuances of childhood interactions, but he's going to have to learn what works for him. Luckily, he's becoming more cognizant of the difference in himself and will come up with a Positive Behavior to compensate. Plus, he has a family that adores and loves him deeply…that helps too!

he is likely to have run ins with authority not from deliberately him, but as a result of his peers framing him, i know that sounds wild and out there, eccentric, but its true with auspergers syndrome, its said that people like jesus may have had this , and while i dont believe the son of god had this necessarily, its a good example of how really really good people can be persucuted, also i know that people with auspergers syndrome can have a very beautiful side for example-- did you know people on the autistic spectrum dont see race/color?? there is much to learn from people like this, its too bad i cant meet your son

Well I think I can help because I too have Aspergers it was especially hard for me to talk to people, and that is why I had no friends especially in high school. I still find myself having the hardest time talking to people. But look at it this way autistic people are basically geeks they are very smart, and knowledgeable people but not so good at communication. But it's okay because Bill Gates has Asperger's, and look at how successful he is. So for your son to think of himself as a freak is not cool, and when he realizes how smart he is he will feel good about himself. So help him develop his interests, and hey maybe he might get into something that will help him be successful. Just like Bill Gates getting into computers, it was his interest he pursued it made it work for him, and he is successful.

I've dated a ton of guys with Asperger's, believe it or not. They were all extremely smart and very successful, but a little odd. They had a hard time relating to the emotions of others around them. One guy didn't understand why I would be upset that he went back to his old girlfriend for a week, for example: he thought I'd be mad, but that we could still date after that. So, they may not have "street smarts" but they can get jobs and date and marry and have children and have lives of their own. If you go to places like Silicon Valley or Washington, DC, there are a lot of people who have it: they end up moving to places where intelligence is more important than being average.
Have courage! Take heart! Good luck!

Ppl with AS typically are quite intelligent for their age but their social skills are extremely impaired. They usually lack social judgement which gets them in trouble witth peers. They don't get abstract language often times (play on words, idiom, puns, jokes, etc). They often act out out of frustartion from not having friends or losing friends.
Academically, they do OK in earlier grades but things can fall apart as they age or as things become more complex. For example, they might read at a 12th grade level but can't do a book report on a 3rd grade level. They might memorize a list of 50 words but can only recite form beginning to end. If they start in the middle, they'll get lost.
Social stories are often helpful in teaching social skills and judgement and coping strategies. They need a lot of support academically. This is all "in general" of course. There are exceptions to everything.

my uncle has aspergers and he is a GENIOUS!!! he is SO smart but unfortunately has been incredibly restricted in his careers due to the aspergers, its really not fair, he is capable of so much more, but thats society for you. its life for some! my brother also has aspergers, he is 19, he has become very successful, well, he is a butcher, a 2nd in charge, but he is happy! and after all, thats the main thing!
they can be successful, the world is cruel and im sorry but your son will have a rough time, but he has such a life ahead of him, he could be so successful and happy in life!
good luck and i wish you both the best for the future!!! i hope this was at least a little helpful!
take care oxoxox

Yes, have a friend found here on Y-Answers who has two autistic children, one apparently is also more High Functioning than the other younger.
I would like to do some research about autism to see if there are commonalities in the birth horoscopes of these children. My purpose being to more quickly be able to diagnose it. If you would be so kind as to post this boy's birthdate, time of birth (am or pm) and city/state of birth, I will add his information to my list for comparison's sake.
I will try for other childrens' birth data as well. So if anyone's reading this, perhaps you would join me in this research. I don't need the child's name necessarily if you'd rather keep it private otherwise, I'd backup my research with numerology using 1st, middle and last name on birth certificate with full birth data.
And thanks for your trust.
