Do they just fly off and make a nest nearby? Or do they try to go back to where they came from?

I've heard both ways, that they are trained to fly back, and that they make nests near-by.

I guess it really depends on the area you are in.

Some of the organisations that release birds do release white homing pigeons, but some (at least some in Australia) release white doves. The doves just have to try to survive as best they can, but usually get killed off by crows etc. pretty quickly. Being white and having no experience living out of captivity doesn't give them much chance of survival. Releasing doves is a cruel practice, and I recommend if you know of a place that releases doves, let them know you think they should be releasing white homing pigeons instead.

Also doves or white delivering pigeons are released during Chinese New Year too, these are oftenly released at night and they fly free, they hang out in that area, until they find an area that has less trees, and less telephone wires. Which ever they seem to adapt into their environment.

Hi there have you ever heard of homing pigeons? well if you havent they are pigeons that are trained to return to a cearrtain place. At weddings and fuenrals you can hire them and they will return to the owner after the funeral.
