I always thought Benadryl helped people with certain symptoms, i.e. intense itching. Once, in the middle of the night (and after taking Benadryl) I woke up in horrible spasms of itching. I was shocked!

Benadryl can't always stop the itching. Sometimes it requires soemthing like prednisone depending on what the problem is. My daughter just had hives from an antibiotic she was allergic to. The hives were very itchy. Benadryl wasn't helping her in this case. Then her wrist and ankles started to swell so we went to the hospital and they put her on Prednisone and benedryl at the same time. That stopped it. The prednisone is a steroid. Possibly a shot of cortizone might even help. I think you might need to see your doctor if it doesn't let up at all. Good luck.

It is possible. Do you use the benedryl topical creme ever? A dermatologist friend of mine noted that the creme can sensitize some people and create a benedryl allergy.
