ive been putting tattoo goo on it 3 or 4 times a day to keep it moist and it is starting to peel a little. I know the peeling is normal but is the redness?

You may have over-goo'd. Where is the location? Is it getting irritated from work, clothing, other movement? You should be washing it with a mild soap still and only putting a very light film of unscented lotion on it at this point - tattoo goo has lotions as well as ointments or many suggest vaseline intensive care, lubriderm, etc.

You may just need to stop putting anything on it at all. The most important thing here is to stop by your tattooist and ask him/her for an opinion and advice.

Stop using tattoo goo, your irritating the tattoo... Dont use any ointments or lotions for a couple days, and see how it looks, if it gets better, then you know it was the tattoo goo,and your defiantely over treating it... you should only apply aquaphor,or a non scented and non alcohol lotion no more then twice a day....as well as keep it clean

Signs of a serious infection would be
Red streaks streaking up off the tattoo
swelling
redness
pussing, and or bleeding
and the tattoo will feel "hot"
fever

if it doesnt get better in the next few days you probably need to schedule a dr appt, you may need some anti biotics to help the healing process..I would also get in contact with the tattoo artist, and give him/her a heads up of whats going on....

Good luck

It shouldn't even peel in 2 days if your putting "goo" on it. However the "goo" should be a good antibiotic gel like neosporin, not some smothering Vaseline or this plastic wrap some people put over it! Just use neosporin and if its still red tomorrow night go see a DR. The shop could have used dirty equipment.

Don't know if it's good or bad at this point. If the redness gets any worse, then it's not good. Avoid putting anything on without a dermatologists opinion.

Go back to the place you got the tatoo from and show them what you're experiencing. They should be able to answer your concern.
