A warm compress helps. Also some anti-inflammatory meds like Ibuprofen every 4-6 hours. Keep taking them for a couple of days to help your neck recover. A more expensive, but enjoyable option is to get a massage, but if you do, be sure to drink plenty of water afterward to help flush the toxins.

I would try alternating a heating pad and a cold ice pack along with massage therapy or physical therapy. Also, try stretching techniques for the neck and shoulders. This helps tremendously.

A chiropractor will fix the problem, and I've got an appointment Monday for the same problem. I swear by them - instant relief.

I have a little experience with this one - the pain goes away when it finally decides to go away - no matter what you try to do about it!
