They are used all the time, they look different because of the slat armor that is on them. The same kind of slat armor used on strykers. It help defends against RPG rounds.

The M113 is in use in IRAQ. You can't go anywhere without tripping over one in this world. The vehicle serves as a command post and hospital in this campaign and will probably end up as the APC we hand over to the Iraqi army.

The nature of your question suggests you have never been to Iraq during this particular military campaign. The M113 APC is being used in Iraq. I have personally seen them in use.

M113s are being used in Iraq. They are no longer being used for direct combat (newer vehicles are used for this). They are used as support vehicles.
