No, I'm afraid I see it getting worse. When I was growing up, even though my parents came from another country and were not great examples when it came to proper English, I could count on public sources, like newscasters and advertisers, to use correct English. Now, every other ad contains a grammatical error (often deliberately, for effect), and the media constantly get it wrong. How is a child supposed to know what is right?

After reading many of the questions and answers on Yahoo, I am not hopeful that standard English will survive. Still, with English being so far down now, maybe it has no where to go but up...

Not in the least. I am taking a Business English course at my community college. Its basically a way for students going into business to brush up on their grammar skills. We were talking about pluralization of words and how certain words were starting to change, so that a different pluralization was becoming normal. One student asked how that happened, and the teacher said that when someone highly respected in academic circles started to pluralize words a certain way, it would become accepted over time in larger and larger academic circles, until it was widely used and became standard. So, basically, she was saying that whenever someone who is supposed to be highly intelligent gets their grammar wrong -- it changes everybody's grammar. Considering the way our youth is educated and uses their grammar now, pretty soon, it will be perfectly acceptable to write "ur" instead of "your" in college papers.

Nope. When politicians, scientists, actors, teachers and nearly everyone else cannot say NU CLEAR and says NU CUE LAR instead it's a clear sign of the dumbing down of America. It seems no one can say RE AL TOR either and continues to say RE LA TOR forgetting that a RE AL TOR sells REAL property but shoot no one knows the term real property either. Personally I find it distressing and depressing that no one can speak correctly anymore and they don't mind a bit that t makes them sound stupid!

I see it becoming simpler if this is an improvement I cannot say. The popularity of the language is making it dumb down.
