I have on-and-off acne as well. I have tried every product in the stores. I found that the "proactiv" kit works best, but you DON'T have to buy the kit to get the results. You can buy the same types of cleanser in any store.
You will want to use a 2.5%-3% Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser. Just check out acne products at a drugstore and look at the ingredients. Neutrogena has one called Clear Pore Cleanser/ Mask that you can use as a face wash or leave it on longer and thicker like a mask. Make sure you use *any* benzoyl peroxide cleanser you choose at least once a day. If your face can handle it, then try twice a day. Some people get dry skin from these types of cleansers. It's the kind they use in the "proactive solution" commercials on tv.
I have found that using these types of cleansers every day has eliminated my acne completely. But you have to keep using it, even when your face has cleared up, or else your acne will come back.
www.acne.org is a good website to check out. Their plan also uses benzoyl perozide, but as a *leave on lotion* after using a regular face wash with no medicine in it. Whatver works best for you. Hope this helps!

TOMATO JUICE :
Normally, pimples and acne are associated with an oily skin. In case these occur on a dry skin then this is the ideal treatment. Take a few tomatoes and puree them. Freeze the puree into cubes (in an ice cube tray). Store these frozen tomato ice cubes in a bag or a container in the freezer. During the day, apply one cube each on either cheek, all the time rubbing gently. Repeat the treatment everyday. A very effective way of getting rid of pimples.

look for a tube of Zia brand mask at a health food store like Wild Oats. Apply it directly on the zit and I swear it will be substantially smaller or gone in the morning. Drink more water. Anything with benzoyl peroxide will work, too, get the highest percent that you can find; 10% is good but you may have to get a prescription for a higher concentration.

It is always recommended that you wash your face at least twice a day with a mild face wash. One of the best preventative measures I have found is to use a product containing 2.5% benzoyl peroxide twice a day, about 5 minutes after washing your face. This will allow the face to dry and your pores to close, causing less irritation to your face.
