First, let me say....it is *much* easier to teach a dog how to *do* something, than to teach them how to *not* do something.

Second..your dog is only three months old...

Third....this could be a quirk in your dogs behaviour... just an integeral part of who he/she is.

My dog is very loud when he plays...in certain games such as tug. It is just an integeral part of who he is.

I know a few dogs trained in all kinds of sports and things, knowing many commands, having earned all kinds of titles...who will still bark every single time they do agility. It is just the way they express their excitement and joy, in this instance.

Barking when playing isn't the worst thing....at least it only happens when you are instigating him/her by playing.

The coins in the can thing might work for dogs who are *very afraid* of noises....if they hate *the noise* more than they *like* the game.

It doesn't bother mine at all... even makes him bark more.

The muzzle thing...may work...you can try it. But why turn play time with your dog into punishment time? If the barking bugs you enuff when you are playing..do it. But it will probably just teach him that he is not supposed to play....or just plain confuse him/her. Would be better for when the dog is barking at a totally in appropriate time.....

Of coarse, the play barking could just be happening because everything is new and exciting, and he/she could grow out of it...

The shock collar answer is just plain mean and stupid..especially since you are instigating your dog, by asking it to play. He would learn that playing with you involves pain. A totally bad idea. Moronic concept. Unless you want to teach your dog to be afraid to play with you.

That is how shock collars work. It causes pain and the dogs try to figure out what they are doing that makes the pain come. So they can avoid doing it.

Which in this case, would be playing with you.

I know that doesn't solve a whole lot for you....but really....do you really want to take the small amount of time you (or any of us) play with your dog, and turn it into a punishment?

That is one of your dogs only moment to truly..just be a dog....

If your reason for getting a dog is to prove he/she is the most obedient dog who ever lived, and you are the best / smartest owner ever.......go for it.

If you just want to have a great dog, who obeys, but plays, and can have fun with you and act like a dog.....this is really *not* a problem.

Best of luck to you, though.

Please don't use a shock collar on this dog. That's a terrible, harsh punisher that's much too over-the-top for a puppy, or any dog. If she barks when you're playing, turn away from her, or leave the room until she's quiet. Reward her for not barking by playing and giving treats. Be patient - it will take some time for this to go away - dogs do like to bark! - Help her to learn that it's not OK to bark like she does. Remember that dogs do not speak English, so chanting "Quiet, quiet!" at her when she is barking won't teach her anything. Ending the game and leaving the room will, though.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aL2lS

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Put some pennies in a soda pop can and tape it shut. When you want the puppy to stop barking, shake the can and say "no bark". the first couple of times you may have to throw the can on the floor to make a startling noise and say no bark. After a few times, you just have to shake the can and say no bark. It won't be long and you won't need the can very often. some times you just have it close so he can see it. This really works for my dog. I very seldom need the can now. I just have to say no bark and he quits. My dog just turned three years old.

This is the method given to me by a dog rescue worker...

Get a muzzle...when puppy starts barking put the muzzle on, s/he will fight like anything to get it off...let them work at it, they won't be able to...after a few minutes they'll stop, once they've stopped fighting the muzzle AND are quiet for the count of 5 take the muzzle off, give treat and praise. In time if puppy starts barking you'll just have to show the muzzle to get him to stop.
