They are NOT doing rush service except in a "case by case" basis, meaning unless there is a death or other family emergency. (and before you ask, YES, you will have to prove it)

From the website "Urgent or express services are available for emergency or compassionate reasons on a case-by-case basis. The applicants must apply in person at a Passport Canada service location, provide proof of travel and have a valid reason for travel."

Right now you are looking at adding 25 business days on top of what they normally try for in turnaround time. (see website for normal times)

The best way is to go to a receiving centre or passport centre so they can make sure all the right information is there and ready for the Passport people to process faster. (and not have it returned because you forgot to sign one place because that adds delays again to when you will get it)

Sorry to say, you will have to join the line like all the rest of us. The only thing you can do is be REALLY nice to the people down at the office because they are doing the best they can and are as frustrated as the rest of us. Maybe the government will hire more people to help with passports around the country instead of keeping all the jobs in the main centres.

I heard that they were not doing the express service during this big rush to get passports.
We were talking about it tonight and supposedly somebody I know applied in November and just got it!

I applied for my passport on a Friday and I received it the second Monday after (10 days in total, 6 business days!).

You can't pay any extra, but you should be able to get it quickly if you have filled out the information correctly and have provided all the correct documentation!

Go online and you get express services. I did it online and saved 3 hours waiting time because you fill in all of the blanks for them and save them from typing everything in. E-online is the only way to go.
