Part-time jobs give students a different experience, a different avenue to develop skills. It can even become one's vocation. It can be gratifying to get positive feedback and work alongside adults. It forces you to structure your time better because you know you have other commitments than family and school.

Advantages would be independence, ability to learn to handle your own money, ability to learn work habits, necessity to learn time management skills, and more money so that it is less of a stress.
Disadvantages include having less time to study, likelihood of confused priorities, and lowered ability to participate in academic enrichment activities (professional clubs, study abroad, speakers, etc.).
