A single soldier maintaining a room in the barracks, but not getting B.A.H., then has the 1SG take the barracks room (for a lower enlisted soldier having personal problems). Now not getting B.A.H. or a room. What is the right thing? SGT O

As a single soldier E-6 and below you are authorized to live off post without the Commander's permission. Without the commander Granting you permission you will not recieve BAH for living offpost, unless the barracks have reach 96% cap. The living assingments fall under the control of the unit 1SG, so you're stuck with a roommate for now. SSG R.

if the soldier is not living in the barracks, he should be receiving BAH. Someone needs to follow up on the paperwork that needs to be completed. If the 1SG is not willing to complete the proper docs then it needs to be elevated to the CSM or COL.

They either have to give you a barracks room or BAH. The purpose of you having the barracks room is in case you suddenly can't pay your rent. Your unit can't allow you to be homeless.

I believe it depends on your rank. If you are not authorized to live off post, but you do anyway, then you're not going to get BAH. But if you are an NCO I think you are authorized. Go to your PAC and ask the NCOIC about it.
