Here is a link that tells how each color affects us emotionally. Use that to help you decide. That said, color, while important, isn't the only part of a room that determines mood. And bright color alone, also isn't what makes us "cheerful." We think of yellow as being a very cheerful color, yet studies show that too much yellow in a room can tend to make some people very uneasy and aggressive. It is somewhat the same with most warm colors, such as red and orange. They get us feeling very excited and upbeat, but too much of that may tend to drain us of the cheefulness we're looking for. So, sometimes, what we really need when we think we need "cheerfulness" is that we need something that helps us feel "peaceful." A soft blue or green is much more apt to give that feeling. That said, the proper shade of a yellow, orange or red can be very productive to a cheerful feeling. But, remember, one color is not usually enough to make us feel comfortable in a room. Mood is also found in secondary accessory colors, whether complementary, analogous or other combinations. It isn't necessarily the "brightness" of the color as much as it is the correct combination of the correct tints or shades of colors. So, assess what it is you really need to feel. Also mood is set by the accessories and how the room is laid out. Too many small accessories tend to make people feel crowded, busy and "pressured." Cheefulness can be enhanced by giving the eye something of interest; a focal point, to look at. Something that anchors the room, and that all else branches out from. Also, take a look at the room layout. A difficult to navigate room may make you feel awkward and uninvited. The second link is to pictures of many bedrooms. Take a look at those and see if any of them make you feel "happy." Then do a DIY version of that room for yourself.

I recently redid two of my bedrooms and I love them. They were both yukky bland colors also. I did one of the rooms in a very, very light purple and had charcol carpet put in. It is beautiful and I get so many compliments. The other room I did in a very, very light mint green and have forest green carpet in the room already. Both rooms look great. I put white trim around the windows, base boards and the doors are painted white. It is just enough to bring out the color and everything looks so fresh and clean. I had new faux wood blinds installed and wow that has helped also. Other than the cost of the carpet, I probably haven't spent more than $500.00 on both rooms. What I did was go to Home Depot and look at all the colors that they had and went from there. I too wanted something that made me feel good when I woke up and this has done it. Hope yours turns out well also!!!

I had a similar problem in my computer room. I couldnt afford to paint the walls so I had to think of a way to cheer it up cheaply.
I found adding a potted plant gives me a great feeling of peacefulness and calm. Also adding plants has been proven to help clarify the mind and improve concentration.
Framed photos of favourite holiday places or special events is always a mood lifter too. Try finding special frames that you really love instead of making them all match.
A pale yellow or blue would make you feel alot more cheerful also. But in saying that you should always find a colour that you have always liked, keeping it pale and not overdone will insure any colour will be uplifting to you. There is nothing worse then being surrounded by a colour you cant stand.
I read a little while ago that placing an amethyst, clear quartz and rose quartz in a triangle in your room, one in each place deminishes negativity and electronic clutter in your mind. Also its always a good idea to bring natural things into your room if you are a bit down or depressed, they help you to reconnect to your spiritual self and relax.
Also something I like to do to pick up a mood in a room is to put a stereo somewhere inconspicuous and play music i love whenever I am in there for more then 10mins, it creates a feeling whenever you spend time in your room that you are happy.
Basically a great way to make your room more uplifting and cheerful is to fill it with things you love. If you love reading books or magazines, put piles of them in little sections of your room to make it more homely and yours. Hang things in colours you love at the end of curtain rods or hooks in the wall, like scarfs and trinkets or anything that tickles your fancy.
I hope this has helped and goodluck!

Depends on the color of the lava lamps! And if you're a girly girl, or just normal If it's a lava lamp theme i'd go for an orange, purple, or pink. Otherwise i'd do a blue! Mine right now is green, and the one i'm moving into this summer (brothers room) is a dark blue/gray color. Interesting, right? I'd do the colors I listed above, and fit everything else around it. Or maybe paint it the same color as the beanbag chair?

YES! Paint it a cheery color. I have a pink bedroom, a green bedroom, a lavender bedroom, yellow kitchen, and a different yellow in the dining room, hall and living room. My bathroom has pink tile, so I went with Black & White stripes with pink thrown in. My sunroom is tangerine. My house is light and airy and cheerful. Even if you don't want to paint the white walls, you can throw color into the room with pictures, throws, pillows, knick knacks, etc.

A sunny yellow is a hard color to frown at. I wouldn't go daffodil yellow...lol
Just a pale sunny yellow. Then maybe get a coordinating comforter, throw pillows and curtains...
Also, the color Amber is becoming hugely popular and it too is a warm color.

Yes, it is. White walls and all florescent lighting should be against the law.
Paint a mango yellow
OR Coral with tropical ocean colors
Apple green is good too or just a thick stripe of it going around the room horizontally.

Paint it a very happy color such as yellow, blue-green, then put some posters up that are optimistic (smiley faces) and just positive words too.
